the thing is he's not limited to one trick. he mixes it up and is fluid with them. i'm not saying all's illegal. i'm just saying someone has to point these things out because they are by and large a part of floyd's game. he should be noted for it if only to have all succeeding opponents ready for them. if they should be called illegal then that's better. in some cases, floyd clearly gets away with some stuff that he should have gotten a least a warning for.

Let me try to summarize the rules.

I believe making deliberate contact on your opponents face with anything but the proper part of the glove is illegal.
That includes other parts of the glove, the elbow etc.

i don't know if most here will pay attention to the videos. this is just one fight. i'm sure there's a lot more to be noted in the other fights as well.

Every one of these big name and currently active fighters gets away with **** that runs from questionable to blatant that they either could be called on at the discretion of the ref or by clearly defined rules should be. Every one. This is the way it's always been, some guys are good at sneaking things in or making them look incidental and some are just ignored because they're well-liked. A great example is Muhammad Ali, who pulled his perfected pull arm tactic with stunningly little consequence against him but much benefit, for many years, and against other popular fighters at that. This is just the nature of the beast. The bottom line is the buck stops with the ref, in every instance. Fighters get away with whatever they're allowed to.

So the consensus of the posters on this thread is that it's a cheat move but it's okay?

Floyd's elbow has always been there.

But he always gets away with it.

turns out, it's more than the elbows. he's got a bag of tricks that need to be pointed out and discussed. i hope the people here look at the videos. i just saw them on youtube and found it really interesting. this is just the hatton fight. i'm looking into the other recent fights as well.

i don't really know what the rules are so i'm not saying which ones are legal and not. just sharing the videos and inviting in comments. i think ortiz' camp did point out the elbows but i think there's more than that.

Floyd is an extremely dirty fighter. He's very good at disguising it too.

As has been pointed out, most very good fighters have a bag of dirty tricks they dip into. It's up to the ref to stop them, and the opponent to counter them.

Personally I think that if Floyd turns the back of his head to an opponent, and ducks below the waist, they should just punch him in the back of the head. Let the ref sort it out.

Anyway, all fighters do it in some form or another.

It's part of what makes a good fighter great, I guess.

I thought you'd post something like government should stay away from regulating the sport of boxing

When Floyd is caught in the corner or on the ropes, he keeps his opponent from punching him by sticking out his elbow. Anyone who dares pressure or throw a punch would risk his arm or face getting hurt by the elbow. I think the use of the head is deliberate on the part of Ortiz to even out Floyd's advantage with his elbow

GTFO of here with this bull****, he is ALLOWED to block shots with his forearms and elbows, if the opponents charges into them than that is their own fault, only someone full of **** would try to make excuses for Ortiz.
