In the last two years, he's fought Pacquiao (p4p #1), Diaz (supposed heir apparent in a thunderous LW division), Casamayor (Cuban LW legend), Barrera (no introduction necessary) and in a few months time, Mayweather, one of the greatest lightweights of all time. Marquez is all you can ask for in a boxer.
Pacquiao and Marquez are warriors cut from the same cloth. That's why they are my two favourite fighters.
Pacquiao moved up in weight to fight prime Barrera and prime Marquez back to back then he fought them back to back again a few years later
Hopkins. Top MW contender Taylor, Taylor a P4P-er in the rematch, Tarver a P4P-er, Winky the #2 P4P-er, Calzaghe the #2 P4P-er, Pavlik the #5 P4P-er.
Good Hopkins mention. Even if the quoted p4p numbers are a little whacky, it's an excellent stretch of fights. If he wants to cash out with a Tito fight, as horrid as it may be, it's not really out of line. Strings like that and JMM give some hope that any good fight can be made and there are some boxers out there that want them to happen (and promoters that let them!).
imo, lightweight is a very weak division aside from the presence of pac and jmm who are P4P Elite (A+) fighters. campbell, casa, the 3 diazes, etc. - all of them are not Elite level (A) fighters. the barrera who fought jmm and pac the second time was already well past his prime. but still barrera did give a great account of himself in the jmm fight.
yeah bhop, jmm and pac have fought the best...that is the way it should be which is why all three are all respected. shane fought oscar x2, winky x2, forrest x2, vargas x2, mayorga, margo, cotto...i know he lost a handful of those but still
