How long before a Fury fight becomes irrelevant to Usyk's legacy?

Obviously 95% of this forum's posts are discussing the value of most of Floyd Mayweather's wins due to the late stage at which some fights were made. I wanted to ask at what point a win over Fury will become irrelevant to Oleksandr's legacy? At the moment it feels like the great lost fight of HW boxing after Lewis vs Bowe or Akinwande vs Bonecrusher Smith.

Currently Fury is of course unbeaten, more or less prime and accepted as the legit man at HW (while many of the biggest names on Floyd's resume had been happily playing checkers with the old folks in the park and losing their reading glasses behind the sofa before he got to them) but given a few more years of hanging about with the accumulated inactivity, pies and cocaine affecting Tyson, Usyk's victory will surely be irrevocably tainted, considered a formality if he wins or a crushing exposure if he loses?

What if it never happens and Fury decides to build on the enthralling Breaking Bad like quality of At Home With The Furys (watch Tyson pick up dogsh*t!) and become a media and music mogul while Usyk continues on with an uneventful Klitschkoesque reign before retiring undefeated to take over as CEO at FURYVISION. Will a lack of W12 over Fury make much difference to his ATG standing?

It probably would not mean a lot, IF Usyk indeed went on to have a long reign, filled with the best opponents available, other than Tyson Fury. A more likely scenario, with fights once or twice a year until he retires (likely short of a very long reign), requires a win or two over Tyson Fury. And a nice win over Deontay Wilder would not hurt either. A KO or two along the way, at Heavyweight, would help his legacy, too.

Well i personally think it is irrelevant anyway, his legacy as a boxer in my opinion is assured.

Now i think Fury was the one who has ducked the fight, however after Dubois tickled Usyks belt line and Usyk either was badly affected by it, or was seeking nomination for a Oscar. Perhaps Usyks legacy would be more secure if he did not face Fury, as Fury would likely be testing Usyks midriff to its fullest extent.

There's no way that fight becomes irrelevant to his legacy, if he ends up winning, he would be cemented as the greatest Heavyweight of this generation. As impressive as Usyk's resume is, something this big cannot in any way shape or form become irrelevant. He has already cemented himself as the greatest Cruiserweight of all time in my opinion, with all due respect to Holyfield. Add him becoming the greatest Heavyweight of his generation, and he ends up most likely being the greatest of his era period, Pound for Pound, if he hasn't done that already at least.

If Fury gets turfed by Ngannou his value to Usyk's legacy plummets.

It makes a mockery of the whole division I think.

Fury will carry him a few rounds in a futile attempt to legitimise the "event", but make no mistake, he's in no danger, he will do with Ngannou whatever he wants and could finish inside the first round if he needed too.

No disrespect DP but there’s a lot of people who didn’t interpret Dubois’ punch as borderline, myself included.

Rather, it appeared to me as a legit low blow - and it wasn’t the only shot that strayed south of the border - intentional or not, Dubois had thrown said shots before and after Usyk dropped to the canvas.

What is laughable are the claims that Usyk had his trunks hitched up to under his arm pits when it clearly wasn’t the case and his navel could in fact be seen on or just above the trunk line.

If anyone’s trunks were overly hitched - it was Dubois’ - and, imo, the difference between his trunks sat as compared to Usyk’s was patently obvious.

Another point to perhaps have a chuckle over is Fury’s fast track signing for a bout vs Usyk - after his alleged (as some would have it) exposed weakness. Did Tyson NEED to see that before finally committing to the fight?

That’s not to say that Usyk isn’t more vulnerable to legit body shots otherwise - there is some evidence to suggest so - no argument there. That was likely what Dubois was gunning for - but his shots weren’t on point and a number of them definitely strayed.

As to Ali, well he had no business taking the punishment he took to the body - his abdominal resilience was insane - arguably without anyone else being on or near par.

Usyk's trunks were covering his nasal passage when punch landed, there was different photos taken during the fight where people tried to claim it either way. But when punch landed belly button was being covered by trunks.

Technically a part of the "glove" strayed ever so slightly low, but look at slow motion the main impact of the blow was on the abdomen right on the belt line.

I'm not saying referee did anything wrong he made a fair judgement on what he thought was low, but I do think Usyk was a bit lucky to get away with one and I don't think he could've continued had it been called a knockdown.

Usyk is both the older and smaller of the two. So I imagine it will always hold some relevance. I think the real question is will USYK always be relevant to FURY’s legacy ?

Nasal passage - joke? :D If so, I’ll pay that.

Nah, his naval was slightly above or right on the level of his trunk line.

The greater part of the fist/glove clearly landed low. There is also the context that I highlighted of Dubois having also thrown low blows, pre and post Usyk going down.

That’s not to excuse Usyk. I can suspend my belief (= legit low blow) in order to examine the ramifications IF that was a legit body punch - if it was, then that isn’t good for Usyk and Fury would likely belabour the body even more than he usually does to pick the same lock.

However, even dedicated body punchers, attempting to thread the needle with the perfectly placed punch, increase their chances of straying and landing a low blow or blow(s) here and there.

No joke intended a total typo on my part but it's still funny nevertheless imagine Usyk's trunks being up to his "Nasal Passage" that's quite a sight to behold.

PS thinking about it i just made a great joke about the trunks totally unintended it does sound funny with all the different opinions about the trunks.

Usyk was nobody a few years ago at HW whilst Fury had beaten the two proven best men in Wlad & Wilder. Meanwhile a bodybuilder was parading around with Fury's belts and Usyk saw an easy opportunity to snipe them. Fair play to him.

Fury will smash Usyk and take unquestionable claim to his dominant era.

In terms of it being an irrelevant win due to age like Floyds wins....yes in 2 more years when Usyk is 39 and Fury is 37 it would be a dud fight because Fury could beat a 39 year old Usyk with one arm tied behind his back.

After fury beats Usyk people will still make the excuses.."Fury waited him out!" -What 1 year whilst both waited for the money to come through? "Usyk was always too small!"- I thought that was his advantage

Hate to tell everyone but both Fury & Usyk are getting pretty shotworn from a career of boxing. Neither have 12 rounds of 100% left in them. Usyk is retiring after this bout and Fury would like to but hasn't got the mentality to be able to retire fully.

Imagine if Fury waited 5 years LOL. Floyd did not want to know about Cotto, Pacquiao or Margarito from 2007-2010. Then suddenly he was interested after they all hit menopause or got beaten up the joint.
