How long before Ali recedes to being a #2 or #3 heavyweight, except for boxing hipsters?

I never thought I'd see people think of Michael Jordan as overrated but I hear that all the time. "He'd be average in the modern game. He didn't shoot threes. He didn't play anyone."
I think each generation tends to pull for their guys.

Ali has hung on longer than most. I think if there was a more dynamic heavyweight now you'd notice him sliding more. To go back to basketball, I love 80's & 90's NBA but have trouble seeing those teams beat modern teams even though I find current NBA kind of boring. Same with boxing. Guys are too big and too smart now. I have trouble seeing Ali beating today's giants even though he's my favorite.

There is a huge Tyson following on YouTube! Nobody beats Tyson on YouTube. Lol!!

to be fair you should see the rubbish on youtube that occasionally gets puts up - though its not the majority. It is quite wierd what a few people think. People still argue vehemently against fossil evidence. I dont know what to say to people like this.

 

But many if not most people today would pick Vitali to beat Foreman in a actual fight. Hi size, stamina, chin seem like a perfect antidote to Foreman.

 

I was commenting on the people on this forum, the majority of whom are pretty well versed in the sport's history. No one would say any of the above regarding Marciano... outside of some here-and-gone alt profiles or trolls.

I don't wallow the social media cesspool. I suggest to any and all to do the same.

 

A fascinating question. In the past when a fighter's core fans pass away, part of the legacy goes with them. This is especially true for the boxers with limited film.

However, as those who were watching boxing in the 1960's pass on, and new fans with no real connection see him with fresh eyes, yes I believe Ali's standing will fall a bit.

There is plenty of film on Ali.
