It doesn't look like we are getting Spence Crawford any time soon, unfortunately. How long can Hamon hold out? Has the best-by date already passed? A lot of us wanted this fight a few years ago. Did May Pac end up making more in their delay? I can only see a handful of people left that Spence could fight before there are no other real challenges. Does or can Spence go to MW? Thoughts?
Haymon doesn't make that decision, Spence does. Its pityful in boxing in the past few years. Its the reason why UFC has been dumping all over boxing. You're gonna fight the best...unless you are Brock Lesnar ducking Comier.
Crawford & Spence are unheard of in the sporting world to the general public. Mayweather was a big name in America based off of being controversial and also taking part in dancing with the stars type of tv show in America. He actually went out of his way to build a profile which in turn put him in the public eye. Pacquiao had an entire country following him as their sole world level performer in sports. They were destined to make huge money because they have a profile. Crawford on the other hand talks even less than fkin Kawhi Leonard, and Spence is quiet too I never hear **** from either of those two. Haymon should have just made the fight as neither are going to make what they want, thats their own fault. Give them 5m each and thats it. But he wont do that, he’s an idiot in the boxing game without Mayweather fighting. Mayweather carried everybody in America, even set a blueprint for the people behind him and they still couldn’t follow it so they deserve pennies. Fk PBC, fk Haymon, fk Crawford & fk Spence. We have better fights every other week, these guys missed their chance
The ship has sailed on this fight. Spence can easily continue fighting on cruise control at 154 and probably have success at 160.
He's trying to recreate a Mayweather/Pac situation but those two were PPV stars fighting 2-3 times per year and had a massive following. Spence and Crawford have been so poorly marketed that I dont think anyone cares anymore. Both have the personality of a tin of beans as well.
Haymons got next to no tv deal left too. Anything with a budget has to be PPV so he’s also going to struggle to hold onto fighters. Unless Spence fights Crawford in the next 6 months. With Wilder moving on then Haymons in a real tight spot. he also can’t sell the company as he has no real brand given they aren’t a promotional company
We are not getting the fight because Bud is not desperate for it. He does not want so he is the roadblock not Haymon.
Honestly Al Haymon deserves a lot of blame for a lot of boxings current misfortunes. It was he who started the whole inactivity thing with his huge roster. However when it comes to Bud and Spence I can’t blame him. Simply put both guys has made between $6 million to $10 million facing lesser fighters and each expect to pocket at least $15 million to face each other. It’s up to those guys to make a tough decision for their legacies because each will be incomplete without the other..
People still care about this fight? The writing on the wall of this never happening was painted years ago. This was never going to happen. Both guys are content with mediocre resumes being undefeated.
From what I've heard PBC aren't in the best place financially and their whole house of cards may collapse sooner than we think. I don't see Top Rank going anywhere soon due to ESPN's strength, and Sky/BT are too embedded in the UK, but it wouldn't surprise me if PBC fall apart and the likes of DAZN somehow manages to scrape through with Golden Boy and Matchroom at the helm Either way, one of these big dogs will fall. The purse arms race was completely unsustainable and while the sport is resurrecting in some ways, it's also declining in others. It's in a transformative stage. I'm not saying PPV will die out or YouTubers will take over, but it's in a weird place right now. Covid certainly hasn't helped, but the symptoms were there before that. That whole Oscar/Pac/Floyd/Canelo era has gone. Stuff like Canelo finding a home on DAZN, Wilder's apparent free agency, Bud-Spence going nowhere, Tank-Ryan going nowhere - with Tank hardly being the most loyal customer - the writing's on the wall. Top Rank's pulling in all of the talent as well, be it black, Latino, Asian, white, whatever, because fighters know the Bobfather is ten times the figure Al Haymon is Good riddance, because while no network or promoter has been particularly helpful to the sport of boxing, PBC are by far the worst when it comes to controlling fighters and gaslighting others If Spence was fighting in the late 2000s, he would've fought Bud already, Jermell, Golovkin and Canelo. People harp on and on about the 70s, 80s and 90s, but the 2000s were a golden age for 135-175. I really miss it
UFC hasn't been dumping over boxing. If anything MMA is lower in popularity. Youtube boxing is dumping all over boxing. And UFC.
A lot of people try and say that pay-per-view is dead but UFC and the YouTubers do way more pay-per-view buys than boxers. How funny is that. It's because most of these boxers are unknown. They are no longer appearing in commercials or mainstream tv or get endorsements. No one knows who the hell they are.
