Without Teddy Atlas in Povetkins corner how long can he hold on to the belt. Immediatly we seen a huge decline in skill after he brought in his new trainer. Lets be honest he didnt look no where near as good agaist Huck. No other trainer can keep Povetkin motivated in shape and give better technical advice than Teddy for Alexander.

When things are going bad and not going your way there is no one better to have in your corner than Teddy!

Well, it's a WBA title so it might be a while.
With the WBA 'contenders' in mind, and the protection of Sauerland he might make it until he finally steps up to fight Wlad.

That said, not many boxfans see his trinket as a actual world title of course!

I do not think Povetkin decline has anything to do with firing Atlas. Do you really think he was that much better before Huck?

IMO he looked bad just because he failed to improve or even declined under Atlas... it just went more or less unnoticed as long as he fought C-level opponents and kept winning with ease. Now he faced live opponent who wanted to win and was way better than Oruh or Firtha (before anyone mentions Boswell and Chagaev - they were not that bad, but Boswell was 42 and Chagaev wasn't really the same fighter after hepatisis).

I think he can hold his "title" for a while. As long as he is "not ready" for challenging opponents (Huck wasn't supposed to be one) and judges are on his side there should be no problems with defences.

That speech is so pathetic. Instead of giving Povetkin concrete advice, Atlas wastes the break with a cheesy self-aggrandizing speech for the tv cameras. He and Povetkin don't even speak the same language--the translator had to translate the gay speech rapid fire.

Dragging out the dead dad before the tv cameras is just one small example of the disrespect Atlas showed Povetkin--an experienced pro. I can't imagine why Povetkin put up with it for so long.

he is the WBA title holder???

how did that happen? I always thought the Wvladtali twins had it, but if they havent then its another nail in the coffin for their credibility. I am wondering why they arent fighting him already.

He got the bogus vacant WBA "regular bowel movement" belt after Wlad got the "Super duper" one.

haha thank you for that enlightenment. Clearly wikipedia does not reveal all. So its not a world title at all in the real sense.

    thanks Rob.

I really do not consider Povetkin as a title holder.
Just a contender that ducked out of multiple title shots.

I refuse to acknowledge WBAs money scamming practice.

He has no title. Let's not give credence to a boxing organization's secondary title that means absolutely nothing.

so he has no title we are all agreed then. Who is going to edit his wiki page to make it correct?

edit - I just did it myself. The pen is indeed mightier than the sword!

His men or some Russian nationalist will edit it back, but may as well keep it accurate as long as you can :/

    Povetkin has a title?
    That's news to me.

Oh, wait . . . you mean his BOGUS WBA belt?
I don't consider that to be anything more than
    GARBAGE. :dead :dead

We all know that Wladimir is the WBA champ. :happy
