How long could Foreman and Frazier have dominated the division if they were brothers?

I'm not really interested in the semantics, though. The question boils down to how effectively Foreman and Frazier could have kept other fighters off the title if they'd worked in concert.

Unless there were multiple titles with different organisations then it wouldn’t have worked out. I can’t really see them deciding one would hold the title and the other been the gatekeeper type. George would be the younger brother but back then in the 70s he didn’t seem like the type that would just take a back seat while Joe stayed Champion until it was time to step aside and let George take over.

The WBA and WBC belts could have, theoretically, been shared from 1969, onwards.

They would clean up the division of practically all of its contenders. But the presence of Muhammad Ali would prevent them from reaching domination

I think Ali could only have been kept off the title with a few, sizeable enough donations, to the right people, at crucial times.

For example, had a couple of swag bags made their way in the general direction of Dick Young's and John Thomas' favorite charities, by 10/9/73, we might have seen a close decision go Norton’s way, for his second win over Ali, on the bounce. This could well have put paid to any demand for an Ali/Frazier rematch.

Joe would still hold a Title, as would George by then, and Ali could have been deemed unworthy ( ) - at least for a while.

Of course, the governing bodies would need to have been in on the split of the titles before then, or at least the one commission, who controlled the belt Frazier would end up vacating. They would need to be ‘generously discouraged’ from offering Ali a shot at the vacant championship.

Those are the sorts of plays that would have been required to keep Ali off the title. I can’t see it happening any other way.
