just wondering how long you trained for before you jumped in the ring as a amatuer or pro and how did you feel, were you nervouse, were you fit enough, were you ready. Just interested in everybodys experiences in the ring.

I trained for about 6 months or so, that being said before boxing all i did was smoke weed and drink, so i wasnt the fittest of people, i weighed 110 kg when i started i was down to 86.8 the day of my fight, I was a nervous reck the day of my fight,my dad and all my friends where there so that just added to the tention and fear of loosing, plus i was one of the last fight on the card and had to sit opposite the guy i was going to fight for two hours before the fight, knowing that it was his 3rd fight and that he had won two by stoppage, ( he was big!) anyway got into the ring and it all happened really fast, the guy rushed straight at me throwing wild hooks i threw a couple of jabs and managed to get out of range once or twice then he caught me and it felt like a truck had rammed into the side of my head, right there all my boxing skills went out of the window and we started scrapping throwing wild punches, ect....the fight then ended when the other guy broke his hand on my head....
I dont really see that as a win, it just showed me i have a hard head, and that next time i get a rusher and get hit really hard just to take a step back or sideways and start thinking not see red and try and beat someone at their own game, use my reach and stay on the outside and let the rusher get tired...
That being said "we all have a plan until we get hit"....my next fight is in a month Ive been training hard for it and hope to have learned from my last fight.

How many days, on average, do you train per week?

    5 days a week.
i feel real comfortable in the ring but as a kid i always got like performance anxiety and never performed as well as i could when doing football and rugby if it was infront of a crowd.i dont think it will be as bad now,ive grown up alot since and my mums coming and i cant let her witness my getting a beatdown.

That's good man. What did you have trouble with the most during training?

Physical conditioning will go a long ways in your first few bouts. Most novices (and some open) boxers don't quite understand the importance of being in great shape. Most likely you will forget everything you learned the last 6 months as soon as the bell rings and your opponent comes charging at you like a mad man. But if you are in good shape and can handle the adrenaline rush you'll be ok. Good luck to you.

    thanks
my coach said they'll most likely come out slugging.im working on making my defence tighter especially on the inside then looking for gaps to land counters between their shots,im definatly improving on this.

    keeping my hands up!
erm, probably sparring with southpaws at first,id just stand infront of them not sure what to do cuz i found it so different.now i just try to make it an inside fight, throw right hands,i was also told to poen my guard alittle bit, apparantly it makes it easier to parry shots.
eating healthily is hard too,i used to live off junk food.

A lot of people have said that to me about your opponent just charging in.
Is it different from sparring then would you say and everything goes out the window, because I'm quite calm in sparring and like to box rather than brawl but I'm worried come fight night I'll just end up swinging.

I go to the gym with one on one twice a week, than have things he has me do at home every day, which I do EVERY DAY, and make sure i never miss a beat.. Been training for like a month, and have 2 novice tournaments in about 2 months or something like that...

I was in good shape before I came to the gym, but the first time I sparred I found out it was time to learn to control my breathing.... 3rd round I threw like 10 punches.. Haha

I sparred Boxing only once. And that was because a guy that trains Boxing at my old gym had nobody to spar with. I was ringside watching my teammates spar MMA. So I was waiting my turn to be next. But the guy came up to me and asked me if I would spar with him. I said sure.

He's been training Boxing for about a year I think he said. We sparred like 5/3 minute rounds. He was definitely the better technical Boxer. But I landed more clean shots. And when I fight man, I don't stop bringing the pressure, haha.
