Not a discussion for how good he is or how much (renewed) hype he has recieved. I'm just curious what you all think as to how long Paul Williams will be able to stay at Welterweight. Seeing as how he has a large frame for the weight class (comparatively).

    In your opinion...

With his current motivation he can handle another year or two. He came into the Q rematch about 156lbs. And was 145 for the weigh in.

I'll say about a year as well.. He'll probably stay in the WW division as long as he can until he's unable to make weight anymore.. I think he's looking to unify which I think he'll fail to do..

    Thanks for the responses.

I can't see him sticking around for too long either, he is fairly young but thats a big frame to be melting down to 147 over a long period of time. I think he would fair pretty well in 154 with the state that its in. I've no doubt he wants to (and should) stick around 147 because that is where the big money fights are, with so many skilled top fighters like Cotto and the rematch with Margarito, up and comers like Berto, etc.

It'd be interesting to see him lace up at 160 eventually. Have him in there with fighters who are actually around his size.

Just can't see him making that much of a lasting impact at 147 myself, but with him moving up eventually it may breathe life into the 154s and possibly create some interesting matchups at 160 (assuming his punch output and punch resistance move up with him)

It will start to effect him if he stays there too long, he's huge for a WW

Agreed.. Even though the money fights are at 147, I really don't see himbeating the likes of Cotto or possibly even Clottey or Mosley.. 154 does need some talent though with Forrest not being his old self since injuries & inactivity, DLH soon to be retiring, & Spinks being inactive.. That leaves Alcine, Dzindiruk, & Mora if he decides to stay.. Williams could easily make his way atop of the 154 standings, but under Mora that is :).. I think Williams just gets killed at 160.. Fighting against Abraham, Pavlik, Sturm, or even Duddy or Sylvester, I just see him getting KTFO..

Not too much longer. He will be unable to make weight soon enough; like to see his skills in light heavy, but he won't be overpowering opponents anymore.

Thats quite possible, he may come in at around the middleweight limit the day of a fight at the moment, but he's still facing the power behind guys who are natural welterweights (or lower). Definately some power in the 160s despite people thinking that its going to be barren if Pavlik leaves anytime soon. Guys like a raw Duddy would most likely trouble Wiliams with their power if not boxing ability. Going to be some talent coming up in the Middleweight division thats for sure. Still, I think it would be interesting to see him fill in his frame a bit and compete with men his size or taller, something he has never had to deal with thus far as far as I know.

I give him 2 more fights at WW; after that, he could move up to 154 and stamp out that division without too much hassle. That would really generate some big time interest for him to eventually move up to MW.

As long as he is comfortable with the weight. There are a lot of big fights and a lot of money to be made at this division so why would he move up in weigth?

After the first Quintana fight, I was thinking that his days at 147 were done..he really did not seem to be in great shape and looked like he really dehydrated himself making weight, however, for the 2nd Quintana fight he was in great shape and based on that I think that he can make 2-3 more fights

I think he'll look for the big fights for another year or so at 147, then moves up.
