I would just like to say "thank you" to everyone who participated on this poll. I read everyone's comments. It looks like the vast majority of us are fans for around 20 years or less, so about 1990 and after. The 80's and before were too early for most of us. But some of you have been fans forever, and that's great. The poll peaked at 10 years which is what I chose also. I've been a fan for almost 12 years to be exact. Thank you again.
16 years of my 19 years i loved boxing. i fell in love with the sport when my pops showed me the alexis arguello/aaron pryor fight. i was amazed and i wanted to start boxing soon. Didn't start til i was seven but i always watched it.
I just want to add that a lot of you have been fans for around 6 years or less which may mean that there is a healthy rate of new fans coming in. This may suggest that boxing as a sport industry is doing well to attract new fans or consumers which may mean that boxing is growing as an industry. This growth could be attributed to all the boxing stars from around the world, and the increasing growth of boxing's popularity. As mentioned in an earlier post, the graph seems to become smaller after around 20 years. This may be attributed to the fact that some older fans are no longer fans of boxing, or they are not actively getting on these boards because of age, or may not have the computer skills or resources to do so, and etc. It could also mean that there were less fans back then as compared to now. We really don't know all the reasons.
Little over 10 years. i remember the Tyson-Holyfield ear biting debacle and watching De La Hoya, but I didn't really become a hardcore fan until about 10 years ago.
Being Mexican American I've been heavily exposed to boxing since I was a wee bit little fella...But following the sport since about the time Oscar De La Hoya made el Chicanito quit.
I remenber watching Dick Tiger on Gillette Friday Night Fights with Don Dunphy doing the annoucing when I was 6 or 7 yrs old. You do the math...thats like 50 yrs!
Good to see some boxing fans in here that have been fanatics of this sport for over 35 years. A few of you probably had to listen through a radio and later on watch black & white tv before color tv became readily available.
long time, still remember my father wouldn`t let me stay up & listen to Ali vs Frazier 1. So I snuck an AM radio into my bedroom listening to rd by rd recap ]Think I was 11 ,my old man hated Ali for dodging the draft.Probably the first big argument between me & him as we`d been watching fights together already for a few years. He heard the radio & came in & listened with me,didn`t give me **** neither,Kinda cool.
:good Awesome. Holmes vs. Cooney for me. Before becoming an Army Brat, I was in one mighty whitebread neighborhood. That fight was huuuuge and I probably made a lot of enemies-for-life, cheering Holmes on.
I've been a fan of the Sweet Science for about 25 years and Im only 32. The hottest fighter at the time was Hagler and I think thats why he is still one of my all time favorites.
Going on 33 years im 39 almost 40. Come from generations of boxing fans though, so i was kind of born into being a boxing fan.
