For me its been 14 years, I remember watching Holyfield/Tyson and becoming being so fascinated by the fight, then watching rematch and seeing all the controversy and it was all so exciting. I haven't missed a big boxing fight ever since and have followed the sport deeply with great passion. How about you ? How long have you been a hard core boxing fan ? In the way that you not only watch big fights but you actually follow every aspect of the sport.
10 years here. I'm 23. __ I used to watch black and white fights and fights before my time everyday at school during PC class. Everyday before going to pratice I would pop in one of my Coaches old school PR fighter DVDs. Read super duper old issues of The Ring that my Coach's son had.
I've been a hardcore fight fan since before some of you were swimming around in your daddy's nutsack. Nah Just kidding LOL. Been a hard core fan since the late 80s. Pops was a hardcore fan and his boys always had fight parties that I went to. I'm not gonna sit here and act like I was at the level I am now when looking at boxing.
Only about 3 years - Hardcore.. Always been interested.. Just wasn't anyone around to bounce conversations off..
I started getting interested right around the time Monzon knocked out Benvenuti for the title and Ali made his comeback in 1970. Then came Roberto Duran. Followed by Zamora , Zarate, Gomez, Sanchez. The 1976 Olympic Boxing Team, Cosell and Dunphy. I happened upon boxing during a red hot era. No wonder I went nuts over it.
My dad is a big fight fan and only 21 years older than me (I'm 34). I grew up watching the fights and Hagler was my guy as a kid. My earliest memories of boxing are the Holmes/Spinks fights with my dad and his friends and Saturday afternoon ABC after finishing yard work.
23 yrs watching the sport My Dad got me watching Frank Bruno fights in the late 80s. I think he saw that as a nice, gentile way to break me in (I wasn't allowed to watch his first fight with Tyson, I was 7) and then I watched Benn - Eubank 1 live on telly when I was 10 and that was me sold. My Dad then gave me an old vhs tape that had a sticker on it saying "Hagler". "Watch this son," he said. The rest is history.
