How long have you been following boxing for?

My first memory of a live fight was Larry Holmes and Ken Norton fighting on the same card.

I remember my grandfather talking about how Holmes was gonna be the greatest HW since Marciano.

My whole family loathed Ali at that time, and when Holmes mowed over some can that night, I remember the 6oz mixed drink glasses spilling over onto the golden shag carpet of my grandfathers mancave.

The 72" silk screen was dark near the top b/c recesses lighting had not yet been invented. But the men fighting that night, and the announcers voices felt as if they were in the den with us.

I was a 4 y/o boy, allowed down there only due to my gender. I had an electric football game in my hand and was pre-occupied with it until the shouts of my uncles, grandfather and great uncles filled the room when Holmes would land his ramrod jab. My other males cousins, all a couple yrs older than me, played 8 ball nearby, but I had been banned from the pool table for tearing the felt earlier that year.

 

As a youngster, I used to stay up late of a weekend to watch the Ali, Foreman, Frazier fights. Been hooked since the early 1970s.

First fight I can remember was Clay-Liston 1965. Listened to it on a transistor radio with my father. I was 14 yrs old.

I vaguely recall watching Friday Night Fights with the old man back in the mid fifties. And no, Teddy Atlas was not announcing.....it would have been Don Dunphy.

 

Watched my first fight when I was 5 years old. My uncle showed me Archie Moore vs Yvon Durrel and I was hooked.

I'm be 31 in a little over a month, I joined this site in 1998 when I was 14 years old.

 

Lol I don't know about "experienced"......TV experience only. I like to watch....heh heh.

 

Since the late '70's.

 

I started following boxing in 1980, when I was eight. 35 years ago!!:shock:

There may be some extremely grainy, black and white footage of me reading various boxing mags in WH SMITHS whilst my old fella hit the top shelf!!

 

I'm 46 and have been a fan since Ali beat Norton and Frazier in rematches. #42years

 

A great read and I at the pool table felt misadventure. I performed a similar trick shot in the local youth club when I was 13...just before the tournament began!!! I would have copped for a severe beating off my elders had I not redeemed myself by pulling the door shutter down on the local corner shop (which was packed with irate punters, including my Mother).

 

The question is...based on posts I've read on ESB....how many people under 12yrs old?
