Featherweight is strong? Lightweight? The heavyweight scene isn't trash? The three lowest divisions in boxing, minimum, light fly and fly are an absolute barren wasteland of talent. There's only a few divisions worth giving any attention. Super flyweight is probably the most talent laden in the sport at the moment, and it's exciting. Middleweight is interesting, and cruiser weight has certainly started to come alive. LHW is strong too.
Geeze, 95% of our posters just all fell off the face of the forum at around 9. I guess that's your bedtime when you get, quote on quote, "old".
There are a bunch of talented fighters at featherweight. It's been recognized as perhaps the deepest division in boxing over the past couple years. I prefer slightly smaller, more mobile heavyweights but I'd bet that today's big men would hold their own against some of their smaller, over-romanticized predecessors from other eras. I just wish that the best would fight the best more often. What makes you say that the lowest division wastelands of talent? Do you follow the fighters/watch the fights in these divisions? Haven't seen many of the top lightweights in action, so I can't speak much about that division. In recent years, I've enjoyed watching fights and following fighters at 126, 130, 147, 154, 160, 168, 175, and cruiserweight. Ortiz, Joshua, Fury, and Wilder have all turned in impressive performances at heavy.
100% just you You can be old, and not a fart. You don't hate all "teenagers," (I wish I was one lol) do you?
I've watched Muhammad Ali longer than I can remember. I still remember him coming to my house when I was a kid. He brought me a stuffed clown that was my size, and punched it in front of me, so I would always punch it. Really got into the sport around 06/07 after I went down a YouTube rabbit hole of Ali videos, and somehow landed on Unforgivable Blackness. I realized the vast depth, and meaningfulness of the sport, and I was freakin hooked.
I remember in 1953, the one round k.o. by Rocky Marciano over Joe Walcott on home TV. Dad went back to the kitchen to get beers for his buddies, and when he comes back the fight was over. I was just a little frapper. Marciano was a 16 to 5 betting favorite. In a pre-fight Associated Press poll, 34 of 36 sportswriters picked Marciano to win. The fight was televised live on NBC. There was a crowd of 13,266. The gross gate was $321,794, and the net was $253,462. Marciano received 30% of the net gate, and Walcott got a flat $250,000. With less than a minute remaining in the first round, Walcott threw a jab and Marciano countered with a left hook and a right uppercut that sent the off-balance Walcott sprawling on his back, his feet flying high above him.
That's ok then. I don't have any dislike of particular age groups.Ive kids from 40 to 32 Grandchildren from 19 down to 5 . If I could be a certain age again 30 would be fine. I don't dislike you, I dislike how you act.I'm sure your parents think you are lovely little chap. ps How's the banning movement coming, got any more suscribers on board?
Marciano had specifically practised the uppercut in training for that fight.I still think JJW could have got up.
46 years old. First started following in 1983 by watching boxing on Wide World of Sports, and ESPN Top Rank Boxing. Since the 90's I mainly follow the heavyweight division.
I saw Rocky in '76 at age 7. I punched the walls in a hyperactive frenzy when I got home. It may have enhanced my interest in boxing, which had begun by watching the '76 Olympics a few months earlier. I saw Star Wars at age 8 in '77. It blew my mind I haven't seen any of the recent incarnations since Disney bought the rights from Lucas.
