How long have you watched boxing for, and how did you get into it?

I feel pretty bad for people, who only got into boxing past 2000. And i feel pretty bad for all the Teens out there, i think somebody of my age which is 24 coming upto 25 this year. I saw the best of the 90's as a kid, i was always watching the big fights, i watched all the big fights on ITV aswell.

And also, i felt the cultural aftermath of the 80's and very early 90's. So many dogs by mine, where etheir named Tyson or Bruno. Loads of Rotties, and sometimes just normal dogs.

That goes to show you, that boxing used to be a culture. Its no longer is, and it is a dying sport.....

I started watching boxing from a very young age maybe 7 or 8, around about 82'-83' been in love with it ever since. My Grandad was a boxer and all the males in my family are big boxing fans. I used to love ITV's 'Big Fight Live' for your major fights and Sportsnight on a wednesday on the BBC for your domestic fights. Memories. Has a youngster Hagler was my man.

 

Yeah me too. I knew a lad who had two Staffies that were named Tyson and Tubbs

 

The first fight I can rememeber watching in Frank Bruno vs Chunk Gardener in 1987- I was 6! I can remember my mum didnt want it on it the living room as she knew Bruno would kill him and felt sorry for Gardener. Me and my brother shouted on my dad to come up stairs (as asked) when the fight started by the time my Dad got up stairs it was all over.

I have a 7 year old daughter just now and I cant realy imagine a 6 year old being into boxing so I am surprised to find out that I was so young.

I can rememeber being 6 and discssing Bruno's upcoming bout with Joe Bugner with my uncle before he was taking me to the football. I also can rememeber listening to the Tyson Bruno fight in bed with my dad with an ear phone each and a small personal radio!

I've always been into boxing, but I only watched fights that were on terestrial telly plus Naz and and the Early Hatton fights until I discovered you find out about upcoming fights on the internet and through buying thE ring magazine. So for the last 6 years I would say I have prefered boxing to football.

 

Just read the thread above. I had a cat when I was younger called Tyson and my dog was called Rocky.

My dad's side of the family are all really into boxing... his uncle was world flyweight champ Jackie Brown so I've always been encouraged to have an interest in it.

Was a massive Prince Naseem fan when I was growing up in the 90s and the first fight I went to was Naz vs. Wilfredo Vazquez when I was about 10 I think. Watched all the big fights involving British boxers - Lewis, Hatton and Calzaghe in particular, then I reckon it was around 2007 when I started to develop a wider interest in the sport. Defo fully converted now, will be a fan for life I reckon.

Just annoying how pretty much none of my mates know what the **** they're on about when they talk about boxing!

 

I have been a huge fan of boxing starting from 1971 when Ali lost to Joe Frazier on TV wide world of sports I was hooked after that.

How did I get into boxing??...one word...Tyson!

Hagler, Hearns, Leonard and Duran all played their parts aswell. But the hysteria around Tyson created so many boxing fans back then.

During the 80s they called us Maggies children...well if Maggie was our mother, then Tyson was definitely our father

 

Watching Mike Tyson blow out Berbick in 2 on vhs when I was about 7, I was hooked after that.
