I am aware. I want to know if theres any set time frame on how long they’re allowed to mess around pretending to retire before the belt is taken away.

This is the UFC. They regularly do the following -

Give people title shots off loses. They have done this multiple times.
Let champions sit on belts and sometimes, actually most of the time only fight every 12 months or so. Ridiculous.

Once someone retires they should be stripped of the title immediately and the top 2 ranked fighters should fight for the vacant title ASAP. If the retired champ changes their mind and wants to fight again within a yr or 2 then I have no problem if they get an immediate title shot.

This is what should happen -
Poirier - Oliviera for the vacant title.
Chandler - Gaethje fight for no.1 contender
Conor - Tferg, whoever loses is now done as an elite level guy.
Nate "DIVA" Diaz / Paul Felder /Hooker / Dariush / RDA / Lee / Gillespie / Makhachev etc etc. Any combination of these level of fighters can fight each other and move up the ladder to bigger fights.

I think something along those lines would be fair for all involved.

Good post that uses common sense. Sadly, that ultimately means the UFC (of today) will do the complete opposite.

Some good posts on in the thread.

The sad truth is, it will change when Dana White thinks he can make more money switching things around.
