I can't see him retiring for at least a few years, the current crop of contenders are not even going to push him beyond first gear. I could easily see him dominate for another 5 years winning easy fights for decent money.
He should just fight on until someone clearly gets the better of him. I don't really buy this nonsense of retiring at the peak of your powers, or even with 80% of his powers he should fight on, same goes for his brother. Vitali who I would even allow now to target the easy money fights like Mormeck, Dimitrenko, Toney, Rahman, Tua and the like. He's 40, he deserves a few easy fights, he's earned it. With his next mandatory being set as the average Stiverne Vitali really could have it easy the next couple of years should he beat the dangerous Adamek.
There is lots of young heavies coming through who will make for great fights in 2 to 3 years. Hope he hangs around for it.
at a minimum..Wlad will fight until he unifies ALL the belts so after Vitali retires (and NO, I dont know when that will be) wlad wants to add the WBC to his collection
Chef, I hope he keeps fighting until he accumulates such a record of title defenses that it should never be broken. Thinking maybe mid 20s to the 30s. He's at eleven now during this streak, through 5 years since he won the title back from Byrd. And that's with longer delays due to setting up unification's, fighters pulling out, and injuries he has suffered ( shoulder vs. Chagaev, Stomach before the Chisora fight, Finger vs. Brewster and probably more we don't know of). Now that the brothers have all the belts they don't have to try and set up any matches. Just fight the boxers who are willing to step into the ring with them:rofl, and the mandatory's. This should speed up the process of match making since all the chips are in their hands. So with the minimum of 2 title defense a year, but hopefully more like 3. It shouldn't take him to long to reach the milestone of 20+ defenses
This is how I see it going down as well, Vitali retires and Wlad beats the guy who picks up that belt, and he can than retire as undisputed champion.
It's probable safe to say he will be around till 2013, or about 6 fights more, if no injuries occur. There are about this much interesting matchups to be made in the early future. After that I guess it depends a lot on the state of the division. If there are juicy matchups looming out there then I see Wlad staying a little longer. Anyway, the Klitschkos are very serious about their careers, can't see them fighting after slipping down or risk tarning their legacies for nothing.

I just don't see the reason to quit at 2013. By then maybe David Price, Wilder, Perez, Fury, etc.. Could be making noise and coming off significant victories or carrying nice records. There will always be a new up and comer that will draw some interest
I say at least two more years. Probably 3-4 years. After 38, Wlad (like all the rest of athletes) will be past his prime and he could risk his record and risk his health. The division has been virtually cleaned out. It would be a nice detail if Wlad could add the WBC belt to his collection. I don't think Wlad can fight until he reaches or breaks Joe Louis' 25 consective title defenses. It's not realistic. This is realistic: he should fight and keep his dominance for a few more years, and retire when he starts seeing some decline in himself. He would still have +12 consecutive title defenses and +7 years as Champion. No need to keep on fighting after 38, 39 or 40. I'm a Klitschko fan and I hope Wlad is serious enough to know when will be the right time to retire. Right now I already rank Wlad Klitschko in the Top10 Heavyweights of all time.
I'd give some slack for Don Vito too. Two champs generating big purses and media attention 4x/year is good for heavyweight(s) at the moment. And Vitali facing big talkers like Toney starts to sound 'fun' now that he's 40 (..and past prime..)
if some of these young guns keep winning, then wlad would have a new crop of guys to fight.... I would say 3-4 more years at least. "Retirement" has never even been mentioned let alone talked about in my 6 years with Wlad and to all that question..... wlad still has motivation, desire, and the burning for success still in his belly
