At the earliest I could see it happening on Dec. 10th. This is a week after the Cotto-Margarito PPV and the networks (at least HBO, not positive about Showtime) generally don't show fights the last couple week of the year but if not then maybe sometime in January. This is a wild guess, of course, and I wouldn't be surprised if it look longer.
The general rule for healing a stitched cut is 1% per day until full recovery.Thats basically 3 months which will shift this fight into Jan. or Feb. 2012 at the earliest.
If it is like nine months then yeah scrap it altogether. Honestly, as someone who supported the S6 for a long time I have to admit that Froch being crowndled via walkover would be a fitting ending to the farce it has become. During the early press conferences, I am pretty sure Showtime originally claimed that there would be no substitutes and that if someone were injured the matchsles would be delayed as long as it took to recover (assuming it wasn't a career ending injury). That would have been the only way to preserve the integrity of the tournament, keeping it the original six no matter how long it stretched out. Obviously those who said the concept was too ambitious to execute were right. The thing failed.
Both have fights the same night (november 5th) so for a Froch-Bute/Kessler fight we would have to wait until early spring at the fastest. So my bet is for Froch to fight a top 10 in Nottingham in october/november and fight Ward in the spring. Of course with the S6 we dont know, maybe some other drama will happen and something big like: - Froch/Ward pull off completely from the S6 - Bute/Kessler drop their contract with their opponent to fight Froch (very doubtful) - Froch take a warm up and then is injured in his preparation of the next Ward fight - so on
he's getting the stitches out next week and then they'll make the determination. Short term memory with a lot of people. Did Carl Froch not delay the Abraham fight over a highly suspect back injury?
