One thing about fighters when moving up is a countdown sort of. Some fighters when they move up it takes them quite a while to face a decent opponent. Now tyrone spong me personally I don't rate him high. Top 5 WBO whatever I still dont rate him high However with usyk moving up 11 months out of action from a injury and fighting at heavyweight. I would not expect him to fight a top heavyweight for his first fight. But after tyrone how long will it be until we see him fight a top heavyweight to truly measure him. Thoughts?
How long does he have after moving up before he has to exercise the WBO mandatory option or lose it? To me, that's the key factor because I don't see the point in him hanging around fighting second rate hw's just to acclimatise, surely he can do that in camp? Maybe Dazn / Matchroom will have an opinion, wanting to have him on a couple of cards to introduce him to their audience, but the clock is ticking and he will be a small hw, so why keep taking risks? One fight to shed the ring rust then its meaningful fights from thereon in?
Usyk-Spong is better than Fury-Walking. At least Sponge has been talked about for a few years, had some elite sparring. Wallino no one heard of him, like he's a Top Tank plant (Spell check is a mudda ****a)
I would expect and hope he steps up against a top 15 elite opponent in 2020. He may have one more lesser name at the at the end of 2019 or beginning of 2020 and then will need to step up seriously in his 3 rd fight at HW.
Bryant Jennings and Joe Joyce could be a decent test for him. He beat Joyce in the amateurs already though.
