How long until Ward's resume eclipses Calzaghe's?

A quick look at your location and already it's hard to take you any serious. Calzaghe did nothing, it was Lacy who stressed to make that fight and so did Kessler. These guys are new up-comers that came and won major belts in a division Calzaghe considered his. Wasn't Calzaghe supposed to be holding those belts before those guys even existed in the professional ranks? Why didn't he? I hope you realize now what the history books will remember.

 

Beating the man that beat Hopkins also adds to Wards legacy over Joe's I mean Calzaghe fans have an old Eubanks and a shot Roy Jones why can't a weight drained Dawson be used ? I mean Dawson is still the number 1 lt heavy weight in the world ..

 

I hear you, but this is where we depart:

Against Ward, Froch fought like a champion, came on strong in the face of adversity and won some late rounds.

Against Calzaghe, Hopkins resorted to dirty tactics and disgraced himself by trying to cheat his way to a DQ or deductions-assisted victory.

That's a pretty serious juxtaposition to overlook.

I feel Ward already has the more impressive resume. Calzaghe wasn't exactly setting a high bar. Good fighter, great champion, but it's paper-thin.

 

Yeah, but WHY did Hopkins resort to such tactics? Because he knew he couldn't beat Calzaghe. He had to fight at a nice, slow pace for him to have a chance and Calzaghe would not allow it. You have to credit Calzaghe for taking the fight to Hopkins. Everyone thought Hopkins was done after the Calzaghe fight. But he proved he wasn't. And that makes this win better than anything on Ward's resume IMO. Had Ward beaten Dawson at 175, i would probably say that win would be about even with Hopkins, maybe a tad better.

 

What he didn't do in the tourney Froch finished up for him with Bute.

 

Really weak sauce to think the belts mean that much, especially now that the WBC will do their best to prevent unifications.

 

When he faces a "prime, undefeated champion"... outside of Oakland... with one hand tied behind his back.

 

He already has, although i will say that Calzaghe's resume gets underrated.

Wards best win is a past best, unwell double vision suffering fighter, who was rusty that Calzaghe took the 0 of when prime. Its that bad.
