Gotti went up about 18 lbs against a B class fighter and hurt
    him bad.

At one time there was a law suit pending over that situation.

When Nate fought Issac Hlatshwayo, Isaac made 135 at the day-before weigh in around 6pm, made 144.5 at the IBF second weigh in at 8:00am on fight morning, and was between 158-162 (depending on who you ask) at fight time. Thats a 23 lb to 27 lb increase. Nate on the other hand weighed about 139-142 at fight time.

By the way, Isaac now fights at welter.

They should hold the weigh-in on the same day as the fight. I always expected that there was something fishy about Williams fighting at welterweight with his size. It's almost like cheating.

Fighters should have to weigh in on the morning of the fight.I haven't seen any decrease in serious injurys since fighters started weighing in the day before fights. These early weigh ins may actually be causing more injurys because of the huge weight differences.

168LBS.....Like Lederman said, he was a SMW last night...

Boxing never had been able to control thewieght after the weight in in boxing, but it is a legitimate issue, and i think it would help if the Commsisions would limit the gained weight and it would help boxers keeping in shape knowing they could not hydrate and ballomed after the weight in.....20lbs over the WW limit is ridiculous....

He weighed in 6 lbs. more than his opponent. If, anything that extra weight hurt Williams. He didnt look that sharp, physically.

I think the only thing that could be done is to penalize them by taking money from them. You can't cancel the fight obviously.

But you have to protect the health of the fighter. They are not helping themselves by starving themselves of essential nutrients etc...

Just fine them if they exceed jumping up over 10 lbs.

If fighting two weigh classes below where he should be competing is the only way that Williams can beat his opponents then he should get out of boxing.

At least 5 pounds of the additional weight is clothing, wraps, shoes and gloves. It's not as much extra hydration as most people think.

You're horrible at math. 164 lbs IS a SMW (168 is just the upper limit), and 164 - 156 is 8 lbs.

This is an intersting statement. Do they really weight the fighters with all of that on? I thought it was before they got suited up.

Speaking of Williams specifically, this tells me two things. One that his training wasn't complete and mostly that at the minimum he should be fighting at 154.

He doesn't have enough pop in his punches unlike say Tommy Hearns to make a middlweight respect him. I didn't realize he was that high but I've always been curious of his walking around which easily has to be 165-170.

Thats an amazing weight fluctuation in one day though. Thats Jamees Toney'ish,lol..

i dont think so. it makes the commentators look like idiots, though some of them already do that themselves, but they are always mentioning about a fighter hydrating themselves and coming in at a higher weight class.

im sure they mean natural body weight when they mention it.
