Ennis hasn't even fought a legitimate top 10 Welterweight yet whilst the obvious answer is Leonard I just want to see Ennis beat a world class Welterweight first.
I think Boots is the truth and the next elite of elites. He doesn't deserve to even be mentioned yet as a hypothetical to Sugar Leonard. Too early for this question. Let's see him against some other world champions first.
Lol, Ennis is nowhere near proven enough to be even talked about in the same sentence as SRL. But of all the rising US prospects/contenders he's the best. I wasn't fully sold on him at first but the more I see, the more impressed I am. He fights at all ranges, doesn't just rely on being fast to beat opponents to the punch as he knows how to counter. But like Crawford he can get hit more than I'd like, so he'll need a good chin like Bud if he's to continue to rise up the ranks.
They used to call Leonard "The Leopard" because a leopard could not change his spots. And his spots were those of a warrior. Then the Hearns camp accused him of peeds. Then they started calling him "Lemon Tree" Leonard because he could "Go suck a lemon." as Bobby Czyz used to say. But after that, it got even worse and they started calling him Leonard "The Leper" because they (the sports writers) used to say that he had "Hansen's Disease" because of the infamous losing sparring he did with Gunnar Hansen, the Cuban immigrant who wore that Spongebob neck chain and fought Vitligo Klitschko. So, I think you can guess by now where I stand on this perennial hypothetical match-up.
Agreed but they "eye test" shows that Ennis is atleast as skied as Benitez and you could argue more skilled than Duran at 147
