I have Burns at 175 for Hart, unless you have any evidence to contradict this.

I then have him at 170 for Flynn, 175 for O'Brien, and 168 for Johnson.

I don't consider many of those names great, and some of the upset you listed ( Jack Sharkey lost to Primo Carnera, Floyd Patterson lost to Ingemar Johansson ) were close in ability. Baer to me gave it away. Holmes lost due to age.

Guys who can hit can always upset. I'll agree with that. Ruiz or Douglas for example. But in Jeffries time he had the most durability and the list of active punchers from 1905-1909 is very thin. At age 29 when he retired, Jeffries has at least three years. If you read along, Jeffries had picked a lot of skill at the time he retired. - Mendoza.

For being on ignore, you sure follow me. I address incorrect facts here. You just happen to have more than most. The amazing part is after all these you remain a low IQ moron, incapable of learning. What id did you claim again? 137:biggrin: Sure that's mighty honest of you. :)

    Boxrec has the weights lower.

I understand that Boxrec can be a bit woolly on weights, but they probably have at least one primary source for the weights.

In my opinion the only white fighter in the six years after he retired that even had a chance against Jefferies is phili Jack O'Brien who would have had to catch Jefferies at a terrible time to win, so would have likely ruled the division at least until Flynn and Willard were at their best

Very true. Had he bothered coming up with some lame excuse, his fans today would swear that he wasn't racist because he once sparred with a black man or something, and that it's outrageous and unfair for us to jump to such a conclusion about such a great fighter.

Jess Willard doesn't even take up boxing if Jack Johnson never fought for and won the title.

And Jack Johnson only got a title shot because Tommy Burns wasn't from the United States and didn't share the same prejudices U.S. boxers and officials did.

The first white heavyweight champ from the U.S. to give a black challenger a title shot was Jim Braddock three decades after Jeffries vacated.

You are right I jess Willard wouldn't have taken up boxing meaning it was possible for Jefferies to rule up until around 1912 where an old Jefferies would have to face prime jack Dillon, Carpentier, battling levinsky and gunboat smith

    This comment is very pertinent.

Long reigning champions tend to get dethroned suddenly, and often not by the person seen as being most likely to do it!

They would have a better argument than that. Jeffries actually fought top black heavyweights of his era on the way up--Peter Jackson, Bob Armstrong, and Hank Griffin.

It may be true that the difference between Jeffries (and Tunney, by the way) and Dempsey might be only that Dempsey was better at PR or had guys behind him, like Rickard and Kearns, who were even shrewder at PR.

It is like a lot of politicians. Your policy is just like the other guys you condemn, but you talk a different game to snow the voters.
