Sure, big hitters, but Tommy was a BIG hitter, explosive and athletic. Don't know if I agree with regards Schmelling. Also, sure, Joe had some quick starts, of course he did, but the slow starter thing was a regular critique. As another poster said however, one of the highest compliments Joe could pay another fighter was wanting/needing to take him out quickly. I can't remember which of his opponents made the quote that 'fear is looking across the ring and seeing Joe Louis in the other corner, and knowing he wants to go home early...'

Schmeling was explosive, quick with great power and timing. Only man to finish Stribling, Risko, Louis and Hamas all when they were young.

Louis finished M. Baer, Sharkey, Ramage, B. Baer, Schmeling, Retzlaff, Levinsky, Maurielo, Galento, Uzcudun, Mann and other contenders before round 5. Who even has this many quick knockouts over ranked heavyweights? Calling Louis a slow starter would void the term of any meaning.
Even in fights that he took longer to take a guy out it wasn't because Louis started slow. He came out swinging against Walcott, B. Baer and Conn in their first bouts. He floored Pastor four times in the first round of their rematch, and was beating Braddock with combinations from the get go.
That's just way too many examples of Louis coming out fast for me to concede that he was a slow starter.
Notorious fast starters like Dempsey, Foreman and Tyson still had guys last the distance or go to the late rounds against them, and those guys fought a fraction of good fighters than Louis did.
You can simply say that Morrison might catch Louis early and drop him, it doesn't have to rely on Louis being a slow starter.
It's not even an outlandish thing to say. Morrison drops Joe then he gets up and destroys him in three rounds.

If the best Tommy , the one who started vs Mercer and fought Foreman shows up he has a few rounds ... regardless Joe would catch him and crash that chin.

No problem man, lots of things get said about fighters. Hard to always know when something is accurate.

Louis is the far superior fighter.
But to act as a fight against Tommy Morrison
Wouldn't be extremely dangerous for him
is magical thinking in my opinion.
Especially when considering the many times Louis was hurt and dropped by fighters,
not close to as dangerous as Morrison would be.
Louis should win, and if he's on his game
It would be a convincing victory.
But if a Tony Galento could put Louis on his ass twice is it really out of the question the much bigger ( Steroids) better skilled , and more powerful Morrison couldn't do the same thing?
    And keep him down?
