None is the official answer, but in the range of 100 would probably be advisable, 400 preferable.

I don't believe in the 10,000 hrs to master a skill is definitive, but it would help greatly to get all your experience while your fight record is relatively unimportant. I've noticed British fighters seem to get far less ama experience compared to their US/East Euro counterparts. The average for Brit pro's seems to be in the 30/40 mark area which doesn't seem a lot at all.

In Mexico you can have more baby teeth than amateur fights (or pubes) and still get licensed. :sisi1

Marciano was 8-4 in the ams, any other ATGs with worse records than that?

100ish sounds good. I’m not sure many fighters can handle the wear and tear of 400 unpaid fights.

Yeah the English tend to have and the US seems to be in the middle... EE and Cuban's having the most prolific (150-400+ range)

You don't need any amateur fights. You can turn pro when you are 16-17 some places. You get a bill of health from a doctor and then get a license.

Please, that 100 number is just modern inflation.
Amateur records of some great classic fighters and some modern greats:
    Sugar Ray Robinson (85-2)
    Floyd Mayweather Jr. (84-6)
    Carlos Monzon (79-7)
    Nonito Donaire (68-8 )
    Willie Pep (62-3)
    Manny Pacquiao (60-4)
    Alexis Arguello (58-2)
    Wilfredo Gomez (58-2-1)
    Henry Armstrong (58-4)
    Marco Antonio Barrera (56-4)
    Felix Trinidad (51-6)
    Joe Louis (50-4)
    Mike Tyson (48-6)
    Juan Manuel Marquez (44-2)
    Ezzard Charles (42-0)
    Canelo Alvarez (41-4)
    Sergio Martinez (39-2)
    Ricardo Lopez (37-1)
    James Toney (31-2)
    Larry Holmes (19-3)
    Chris Eubank (19-7)
    Julio Cesar Chavez (14-1)
    Roberto Duran (13-3)
    Rocky Marciano (9-4)

If you take more than 100 you are badly cutting into your pro-career and are likely harming your earning potential. Lomachenko and Golovkin do not make Mayweather/Pacquiao money.
