I read Martinez got $500k for Pavlik fight.

Haye & Hatton also get more than a mill per fight.

With trainers taking 10% of the purse. The Government getting its' 35-40%, plus training expenses. A fighter is lucky to take home 40% of what he makes including the top notch guys.

If you fought for Kronk back in the 1980's and you got paid a million dollars you would be lucky to brink home 200k.

    1,000,000
    -400,000 (uncle sam)
-330,00 (Manny Steward=Trainer & Manager took his cut off the gross)
-70,000 (Expenses, sparring partners, entourage, etc.)

That leaves a grand total of about 200k for the figher. Thats how Tommy Hearns ended up broke.

    1. Youre wrong about UFC fighters having a greater chance of hurting themselves. Because of the one thing that makes boxing so different from MMA, the fact that you cannot go down, is what makes boxing alot more dangerous than UFC, alot more.

    2. UFC might not have a disablilty pension and niether does boxing. However, boxings been around, professionally, for over 100 years now here in the states and no pension.

stop putting mma and boxing in the same sentence.

Right now, I'd say these are making at least a million to fight:

    The Klitchkos
    Haye
    Adamek
    Green
    Hopkins
    Dawson
    Abraham
    Kessler
    Froch
    Pavlik
    PW
    Cotto
    Pacquiao
    Mayweather
    Mosley
    Berto
    Hatton
    Khan
    JMM

Khan supposedly was paid $1.1 million for the Paulie fight. But as has already been pointed out, the fighters never receive even close to the amount after tax, training expenses etc etc etc has been taken into consideration.

Once you have a contract with say hbo or showtime it can be in the 7 figures for mutiple fights like berto but as some people mentioned the cuts that come out
    1)trainer 10%
    2)co-trainer 5%
    3)cutman up to 2%
4)PROMOTER who cut can be as big as the IRS's
5)manager 10% if not same as promoter
7)gym fees, sparing partners, nutritionist, fitness coach
8)if they are a US based fighter IRS and non US based pay a tax on earned income in the US for the time they are there

so realistically if a fighter no matter how popular they are walks away with 50% of there fight earning they are ahead of the curve

If your smart and promote yourself you wont end up getting ripped off like some boxers have been over the years.
Thats the main reason Danny Green can fight guys like Siaca and Briggs and make over 1mil as opposed to guys like chad Dawson who struggle to get half that payday unifying titles.

It seems Germany is one of the largest fight markets in the world. Wald is making $6 mil and Alexander is making $2 mil. I also remember Abraham's team offering Felix Sturm $3 mil.

UK is also another huge market, with Amir making millions (from what I hear) before he is even a champ. Also Haye, Hatton, and Naseem making millions.

I also heard Kessler made a lot of money in Denmark with ppv over there. Does he make good (millions) money.

I didn't know Green was that big in Australia, is Mundine bigger I read in an article that every single one of his fights have been on ppv over their. If so, I would bet he makes at least a million a fight (assuming hes bigger then Green).
