have bought out their major contenders contracts just to keep the contender away from his champion at least for a while?
I could be wrong but, I seem to Remember when Naseem Hamed was champ, a streaking contender called Angel Vasqueaz, a vicious aggressive puncher, was closing in on the mandatory shot spot, and his name was starting to be mentioned in the same breath as Hameds, when i think he had some temporary link up with Hameds Promoter Frank ******, had a meaningless fight in the UK, in which he failed to shine, endured some inactivity, and seemed to go off the boil and gently fade away, He seemed to go from "One to Watch" to "Where'd He Go" quite quickly, No suggestion of any crafty tactical manoeuvrings, i suspect Angel may simply of flattered to deceive and did not travel too well. ?
didn't zivic manage burley for a time so he could avoid a rematch? my 80s heavyweight knowledge is sketchy (mr. bill?) but i think don king did this to match larry holmes to his own liking
