How many clues does their respective Kessler fights give us about Ward-Froch?

I think a large consensus here feel that Froch is gonna give Ward his toughest fight yet but personally I cannot really see it. I love Froch but he went life and death with Kessler for 12 and most people (I actually had Froch winning by a point when I scored it recently) felt he lost by a couple of points, whereas, Ward, I thought, looked absolutely sublime in his own fight with Kessler and completely dominated him.

Obviously styles make fights, but I do feel that these Kessler bouts give a huge indication for what is to come in December and that is a one-sided boxing lesson where Carl has little more than a puncher's chance. So I would like your thoughts on what Carl can show Ward that he wouldn't have seen from Kessler or anyone else before and how close you think the fight might be...?:bbb

Edit: Just read the thread title back and it's a bit convoluted but hopefully you get it :good

You say Froch has a punchers chance I don't think he hits hard enough for that he stops opponents by wearing them down with relentless pressure and shots, I can't see how he wins this fight he is to slow and his footwork is not upto the level required to beat Ward he coulf have his moments, but I see a 8-4 9-3 sort of victory for Ward.

Ward on points is a good bet imo.

Well, it shows that Froch will be utterly dominated if Ward is able to get inside Froch, which he inevitably will do with regularity.

Look, the main reason that Kessler beat Froch(and he beat him by a couple of rounds in my opinion) is because it was ridiculously easy for him to get right on Carl's chest and getting to work. Now, how often are you going to see Mikkel regarded as one of the best practicioners of inside fighting in the sport? Pretty much never.

I mean, if Kessler could use that slight adaptation to exploit Froch's weakness of being ineffective on the inside what's someone as adept as Ward going to do? SOG is abundantly better at both A) making his way inside frequently and B) smothering you, and not allowing you to score while he does all the eye-catching stuff than Kessler is.

Personally, I think Ward beats him from any range he wants, but particularly in close(and long range in truth if he forces Froch to go on the offensive, mid-range is Carl's best chance but Ward won't linger there) where Froch is average at best. Even Johnson could have beaten Froch if he wasn't silly enough to allow himself to get tied up everytime he found his way in, which was a lot.

Just my opinion though, Kessler's set a very obvious blueprint on how to take advantage, and Ward is amply better at putting it in action than Kessler.

The only reason I say a puncher's chance is that there is still some degree of a question mark over Ward's ability to take a punch and Froch has decent power at the world stage though not fantastic I agree.

Ward doesn't hit the hardest but anyone think it is possible he stops Froch? I can see him landing the straight/overhand right constantly throughout the fight from first bell to last and it may take its toll eventually.

Another point was that in the Ward-Kessler fight, Mikel was really struggling to get his jab going (well anything going for that matter), whereas, against Froch the battle of the jabs seemed pretty even to me. How do people reckon Froch's jab will go in the fight?

I reckon this fight is very close one both fighters will have there moments but I reckon the judges will give it to old home advantage ward by 2 rounds, he's a bit to quick and crafty for froch, he'll probly be like a coming forward dirrell that fought froch.

So he'll win due to ''home advantage'' despite being ''too crafty''?

    Right.

He'll be all over Froch like a blind lesbian in a fish market, I think he wins comfortably.

He'll be crafty ofcourse but he's had home advantage this whole tournament! I bet half the judges have already been round his gaff for din dins.

I really don't think it will be close enough for corrupt judges to be an issue.

Clear decision for Ward, bent judges not needed. I'm not even sure about Frochs "punchers chance" he seems reasonably heavy handed at this level but no more than that.

one thing I have noticed about Ward is if he gets his confidence up during a fight he starts switching stances and will fight southpaw.

keep an eye for it, because if he does then that gives you an indication of how he feels the fight is going.

Against Bika I don't he did it once because it was one of those tough scrappy fights against a wild fighter.

    Ward > Kessler > Froch

    Mosley > Margarito > Cotto > Mosley :huh > Mayorga > Forrest > Mosley :huh > Margarito > Cotto > Quintana > Williams > Wright > Mosley :huh > Mayorga > Forrest > Mora > Forrest > Mosley :huh> Mayorga > Forrest > Mora = Mosley

  14. Very little indication IMO.

Saying that I think Ward will win, there hasn't been too much indication of him being vulnerable, either to single shots or being worn down.

Froch isn't anything more than heavy handed at this level, saying that he's faced a lot of very durable opponents and a track athlete, so it's difficult to really say.

If he'd really stepped on the gas he might have got both Abraham and Johnson out of there late, but it wasn't really worth the risk.

The best chance for Carl to win this fight is to box, if he starts trying to fight with Ward he'll come a distant second and probably lose every round.

By this I presume you mean he should keep it long at the end of his jab. By his 'best chance', what chance do you actually give him of not only keeping it long but winning that way?

For me this would be one of the great British victories, probably since Hatton-KT, I really rate Ward that highly and think Carl is majorly up against it.
