Erik Morales first comes to mind just look at his record i will always put him ahead of Barrera even though he lost two of the fights because he was always challenging himself, and i thought he beat David Diaz.

Shane Mosley also never afraid to fight anyone.

and Lennox Lewis although i thought his fight with Tyson was a big mismatch due to the timing in their respective careers and i thought he was being a **** when he tried to make Mike fight him again as there was no point!

 

As long as the money is right.

 

This is a dumb question though. Your first priority in boxing should be to make money because when your retired and suffering from brain and/or physical damage, no one is going to take care of you except yourself. It's not that modern fighters are greedy and don't have love for the sport. They do. Still at the same time the have seen what happened to the likes of Joe Louis and countless other great fighters who couldn't support themselves after they retired.

Show me a time when he turned down more money against a lesser opponent in favor of a more difficult opponent for less money.

In fact, show me any fighter that has done this.

 

You think in the good old days, fighting the best opponents didnt get you more money? In fact, the one thing that favored the old timers is that there was only one, maybe two depending on what you call old timers, belts in each division.

Its the same old story. Show me some one, even in the old days, who took less money for a better opponent.

 

Juan Manuel Marquez (fighting Pac for **** money in both fights, putting his hard earned titles on the line for the fifth of PacMan's purse, also fighting Casamayor and Diaz at LW, a division far from his natural one).

Hopkins (fighting Taylor when it really wasn't necessary, Tarver the LHW champion, Winky the P4P#2, Calzaghe the SMW Champ & P4P#2-3, Pavlik the MW champ 17 years younger & P4P#5, Adamek the CW World Champion. He's definitely looking for money, but he's taking ANY risk if at least a decent purse is guaranteed.

Darchinyan: Gorres in The Philippines, Kirilov, Mijares, Agbeko, not the biggest purses for him, but all being champions in different divisions (except Gorres), and that's what he's after, other champs and titles. Not even talking about legacy. He just wants the best.

Abraham: fighting Miranda in his backyard, Forrest in the USA, probably Pavlik in his backyard for a much smaller purse than he'd make home (and deserves vs. these opponents).

 

BS. both of them made around $700k in the first fight.
