That would happen as of now because they get so far out of shape in between training camps they have to kill themselves making weight therefore not being at their best during the fight and that on top of taking a beating will of course be very detrimental to the fighter. Look at Robinson, Armstrong, Zivic, Canzoneri, Greb, Gans, Loughran, Gibbons, Benny Leonard, Ross, Charles, Moore, Louis, Ali, Foreman, Frazier etc. they all fought the best at their best multiple times and as a benefit they stayed sharp and in shape. They didn't have time to get fat.

Don't let modern boxing folks fool you you're smarter than that bud.

Guys don't need to fight as much because they make so much more money today! As Hagler once said, "it's hard to wake up at 5AM to train, when you're sleeping on silk sheets"

    3-4 fights a year.
Conditional on the fighter not having been knocked unconscious in previous bout, in which case they should probably take a longer break.

Look at all of you, like a bunch of battered women. "I can't ask him to stop smacking me around entirely. What, ask for the moon? I'm not the Queen of Sheba. But maybe he could hit me just a little less."

"Please, please, fight twice a year! Make every one a pay per view. I'll give you all my money!"

4 competitive fights per year is reasonable.

3 or 4 imo but i think people like Joshua could fight 6 because he is only in there for 6 minutes usually!

    De[ends on the level.

The top level champs, Id like to see 3 per year, because its just not feasible to do much more(maaaaybe 4), with TV dates, promotion etc

At the top level I think 3 is the right balance between giving the fans what they deserve and not ending up with fighters shot early in heir career.

More importantly though, I think all organisations should be enforcing mandatories at least once per year. Top fighters are taking too many soft touches!
