How many fights should a current top 10 fighter have in a year?

3 times a year is good enough for me. I wish it could be 4 but due to promoters and the amount of training that fighters do and then finding an opponent, it simply isnt plausible most of the time.

I would say atleast 3 fights a year! some fighters today is so inactive, its allmost a joke! Look at Sugar Ray Robinson, the guy had 10 fights in 1964 and 14 fights in 1965!!! Now thats a true fighter..

Realistically, you could ask for 4 fights a year. Thats possible. The only thing i liked about Sven Ottke was his ring presence, he fought every 3 month like a swiss clock. There is no reason why a champ cant fight 4 times a year. If he has a brutal war, ok, let him rest a few more month. But how often do you see a 1st or 2nd round ko and still the next fight is 5,6 month later? Thats not good for the sport. How can you build a fan base with champs who do not fight !!?
2 times a year is laughable, my opinion. Thats some modern day s!it.

3 is sensible but it looks like 2 is the average nowadays

3 would be good but if they're fighting decent compeition then they're going to need at least 2 months camp before each, so that's at least 6 months pure psycho training a year. Take at least 2 weeks to recuperate after each fight (more for wars) and that totals 7.5 months. Stick on 2 weeks per fight for promotional work and you're up to 9 months of the year. Maybe they have a really big fight and need an extra month to prepare and thats 10 months solid work or recovering from the work. 2 months off isnt a lot of time to get your hunger back when you're getting beaten up for a living.

For me it firstly depends on the weight division, Heavyweights often take overmatched fights on to keep busy and they really can be boxed every 8 weeks, but a fight made to elevate a heavyweights career properly against an opponent who can definitely beat you needs a realistic 3 months preps at least so i say all in all , for a heavyweight 3 is ok, four is good.. But very rarely do we see it nowadays. There is too much emphasis on keeping an unbeaten fighters 0 in tact..... When Joe Louis boxed , if you lost you were eager to rage back into the firing line to prove yourself and learn from the loss, that ethic is missing today, and our fighters are very much hype jobs and primadonnas desperate to look the part but rarely deliver..
