It's a fresh new year and Ward is still on the shelf. Goosen passed away last year, but Ward is still in a bit of a legal situation that he hasn't gotten out of. We can all talk about fantasy matchups with him and Kovalev or Golovkin, but he if he doesn't get back into the ring or at least travel out of state, there will be no fight to be made. Bottom line, he needs to get off his ass and start fighting.
He is going to let his contract with Goosen run out before he fights again which is this Summer I believe. That is a longtime on the shelf....
Just read a document that said Ward's contract with Goosen expires on March 8, 2016. That includes a 6 month extension in which Ward was nursing a shoulder injury and was unable to fulfill his contractual obligations.
How many fighters are under Goosen Promotions currently? Sounds like Ward doesn't want to fight under his current contract and he's letting it expire, dumb move.
:deal If anything he should fight and give Goosen promotions what ever I mean they bent over backwards for him in the S6 !
I´m starting to believe he´s playing hide and seek. He knows he hasn´t got the punching power to keep Kovalev or Stevenson honest. On the other hand he knows fighting guys like Dirrell and Groves he puts himself at risk of loosing or getting knockout. That´s not saying odds would be against him but this is boxing, one punch can end the fight. Plus Wards smothering style is all wrong for punchers who know how to control the distance (Dirrell, Kovalev).
Two fights would be great and two fights are achievable so I picked that though. 1 is a more realistic guess but if Ward fights once he'll want back in the ring asap. I expect summer and start of winter fights from the #1 SMW.
I'm curious to know how he makes money when he isn't fighting. I know he has a big family. Maybe his wife works or something.
