Obviously I subscribe to sports channels , sky , boxnation and chelsea tv all of which are generally value for money but all could be improved . Three of my 4 sons play football at weekends my second eldest is 24 and plays on a Saturday and goes to the gym when he can my two younger boys both play football and are 11 & 7 the elder of the two plays on a Sunday . My eldest boy is 25 and is to lazy to play and certainly to lazy to go back into the gym . I have coached and help coach the middle two for their football teams and both elder ones were partly coached by me in a boxing gym for a good few years ( admittedly years back ). A few years ago I was asked if I wanted to coach again at a local gym but back problems and arthritis really make it impossible . My opposition to this boxing card being Pay-per view is not because I have nothing better to do it is because it is genuinely not up to the standard required . There is also my worry that if this is a success more british level fights will be made Pay-per view and that will cause boxing to become even further away from the mainstream sports fan and that is bad for boxing in the long term
Yep it's definitely a personal choice If it had been groves vs de gale II instead of froch vs groves I would of had the same view as I have for cleverly vs bellew II. Although I would of wanted to see the fight I would of taken a long term view that it wouldn't benefit boxing to have british/euro level fights as pay-per view .
Who are you to judge if somebody is a true boxing fan depending on if they do or don't buy a **** poor PPV Maybe we should judge you... If you were "hardcore" you would be going to the event not watching it on TV. And you said it yourself "decent fights", since when are "decent fights" that you event admit not many are even 50/50's PPV worthy? Take Bellew Cleverly out of it, are you willing to give even money odds on any of the other Matchroon fighters?
I get the concern that in the future they will keep trying to get ppv for lesser and lesser fights. I think ppv and paid sports channels have already had a huge negative effect on boxing as its just not watched or available to as many people as before
:deal You're either a fully signed up member of the Sky Generation and happy to feed the machine.......or you're not.
I don't like this "hardcore" boxing fans stuff, we weren't born hardcore boxing fans, we developed this over a number of years by having access to watching fights. if any half decent fight is charged at £17quid a pop the interest amongst casuals + younger / new fans which is needed will die out. Boxings a relatively minor sport in the UK, and competes with football, rugby f1 etc, all of which have big events on next weekend that you don't have to pay £17 quid to watch.
Everyone is talking about the fight night. Just look at all the threads on it. Face it. It's worth a few quid. So be good to yourselves and pay a small amount for hours worth of championship boxing.
It's not ppv and I can't get excited about B v C 2,but I am at home on Sat so what else will I do........if I thought not buying it would stop them trying to charge extra for a below standard card I would How many of the regular posters on here who generally buy decent ppv are boycotting?Lets get some numbers...cos I haven't ordered it yet!
It is, hence the debate! But 'PPV quality' is an interesting concept. There have been plenty of top bouts not on PPV, and plenty worse than this on PPV...
That's the nature of boxing for example we know that clashes of style can make or break fights ppv or not.In my opinion the headline bout is poor because there is nothing actually at stake, titles etc.Neither of these lads is going anywhere and I don't view it as a stepping stone to better things,I can find very little interest in thisatsch
I'm interested regardless of what's at stake. A football match can still be entertaining even if it isn't a cup final. I'm certainly not defending the ppv though, or pay tv in general..
