Everyone knows he completely abandoned the Bobbing and Weaving style and using that jab to get inside once he left Kevin Rooney. But apart from the Douglas fight, i am just curious as to how many jabbers did he really face. Frank Bruno was mostly throwing Hayemakers in the first fight but he did get a few jabs in which did tag Tyson, that was the first fight in which he started getting hit more often. Carl Williams is a guy renowned for jabbing and he did tag Tyson with a jab before Tyson managed to get the left hook in. Even then the stoppage in my view was premature, had the fight been able to go on, he might have troubled Tyson. Everyone knows what happened in the Douglas fight. Henry Tillman and Alex Stewart, no jabs at all. Razor Ruddock, most threw power shots and bombs, but if this guy actually jabbed well, he would have given Tyson absolute hell, in fact he might have even won the fight with his jab against Tyson who just kept walking in a straight line with zero head movement and slipping. Peter Mcneeley, Buster Mathis Jr. No jabs at all, enough said. Frank Bruno. Again this time he faught a totally tentative fight compared to the first fight and did not use his jab at all, was more intent on surviving and clinching rather than throwing anything in the fight. Bruce Seldon. Faked a dive and got out of there. Evander Holyfield 1 and 2. Holyfield defeated Tyson with master ful counter punching and a superb inside game but didn't even throw that many jabs. Botha. Outboxed Tyson using the Holyfield blue print but didn't throw enough jabs if any in the fight. Orlin Norris, Julian Francis, Lou Savvarese. Enough said. Bums. No jabs Andrew Gollata. Now he did tag Tyson with a few jabs in the second round before he had a melt down and quit. Brian Nielsen. A fat overweight guy. Didn't even fight back against Tyson. Dont recall him throwing many jabs either to test Tyson Lennox Lewis. Now after a long long time, Tyson is facing a big tall guy with insane reach and just seeing Lenni tag Tyson's face with his jab round after round was incredible. What really shocked me more was the fact that everyone in the world knew that Lenni had the best jab going around and it was as if Tyson came into the fight without doing any homework or knowing that he would have to contend with the jab and would need to bob and weave out of it. But what we see is Tyson just walking in a straight line and relying on his chin to embrace the jab while he walks in straight hoping to land a money shot. Clifford Ettienne. No jabs. Danny Williams and Kevin Mcbride. Again no jabs, just straight out punches. Anyways. The point i am trying to make here is that his Bobbing and Weaving approach was specifically designed to deal with big, tall boxers who would jab and allow him to get inside and unleash combinations. But he stopped doing that after leaving Rooney and it is my suspicion that since then he avoided boxers with good jabs who could expose this gap in his game. Once his Bobbing and Weaving went, he was always going to have problems against guys with good jabs and i am just shocked that since 1988 the only guys to expose it were Buster Douglas and Lennox Lewis.
