Henry Armstrong held titles at Feather, Light and Welter simultaneously!! I've also read that he was robbed in a fight for the MW title.

Because of Armstrong you cannot hold titles in different weight divisions .

Yeah, the draw in his Middleweight Title challenge was very dubious from what I've read. I could be wrong but I think Barney Ross held titles in 3 weight classes simultaneously also?

It's worth saying that Armstrong held the only title in those weight classes - he wasn't a titlist, he was the true champion. Pacquiao isn't/wasn't the recognised champ at lighweight or welterweight. That doesn't downgrade his achievements though - what he's done is incredible.

I dont think that Armstrong ever fought for the middleweight title.

However winning titles in many different weightclasses is a really watered down accomplishment today. Reason is there are som many freaking titles at every weight that one could go though and pick the weakest belt holder in each weight and its not a big deal. Pre 1980's there was no IBF, no WBO. The wbc and wba come around in the late 1960's. There were a large number of fighters that, if there were all those titles would have easily won title in four or even more of the 8 weights. Archie Moore went from welterweight to heavyweight. Im guessing with the titles today back then he would have picked up three or four easy.

I know this thread was started by a ******* as a way of pumping what Pac has done but as true to form a ******* is once again overstating things. One Pac hasnt won titles in four of the 8 he only won in 3 fly, light, and Welter. He never actaully won a bantum or feather title. Secondly he has never beat the MAN at any of those weights. So in a sence he was only a beltholder in those weights and not really the champion. Along with the added belts, there also has come added requirements to be called "CHAMPION". picking up the lightweight title from the guy that was clearly seen as the weakest champion is the weightclass doesnt really make Pac the champion of that weightclass. I know that it does techincally, but in todays boxing no so much.

He fought for the MW title against Ceferino Garcia but the fight was ruled a draw but many think Armstrong should have gotten the decison.

That fight was actaully not a "World" title fight. It was really only a Cal. State title. It would be akind to winning a WBF or WBB title today. Someone said this is a world title but no one outside of them saw it as such.

Armstrong was fighting the recognised MW World Champion when up against Garcia, it is the length of the fight (10 rounds) that puts a ? against whether the fight should be considered for 'the title'. So its not that he was fighting what we would today consider a marginal 'titlist', but that it was a 10 rounder against the champ.

Yeah, I think its generally considered that he was fighting for MW honours in that fight, I was just wanting to point out that there wasn't a ? over recognition because he was fighting a mug ABC titlist, but recognition is questioned because of the fight length.

You can, theoretically, hold and defend titles in more than one weight class. Many have done this, such as Leonard against Lalonde, and more recently Juanma and Soto have done this, but they chose to vacate one of the titles to avoid jumping around in weight.

  14. Pacquiao beat "The man" at Flyweight, Featherweight, Superfeather and Jr. WW and is ranked #1 at WW. Pacquiao actually holds the all-time record for how many "The Man"s he defeated. Just FYI.
