Not me. Too crude, even for the era. It seems to me that even the old Fitzsimmons and Corbetts he beat were on a different level technically. He has good power, incredible stamina, good durability, great physical/size attributes... But he lacks in skill and resume as far as the top 10. And imo he isn't even a H2H monster like a Dempsey or Tyson would be. so no.
Well, he wasn´t the most skilled but he improved from fight to fight. We very possibly never saw the best Jeff because he retired before he got there. Anyway, his resume is actually very good, not Ali like but better than for example Foreman´s.
Do you really think so? I think he profited over aged versions of once great fighters, whom he had a massive size advantage over..And the rest are uninspiring. I'd say his resume is even less impressive than Dempsey's even, let alone big George. Agreed that he retired or became inactive early, but a lot of fighters have done that.
Nah, I don´t rank fighters on things like "skill" or "h2h". That´s even more speculation and guessing than ranking them on resume and achievement.
He cleaned out the division of his time. The only one you can make an argument for him not fighting is Johnson against the end of his reign. I´m not a fan of Jeff but he was a very, very dominant champ - only Louis really compares here - who beat everyone around. And his resume is actually quite impressive, especially when you look when he fought those guys. Nearly every fight he had was against a contender, there are no fillers like 90% of Foreman´s opponents. When he fought the Jimmy Youngs and Tommy Morrisons of his time, he beat them Yeah, he was bigger than most of his opponents, so? Lewis was too, does he get sh*t for it? Never seen it.
i couldn't rate him anywhere, honestly.i've look at film of these old fighters and they look awful, compared to somebody like robinson or charles.
Well, of course they do. It´s a different sport. Hardly comparable. That´s why ranking fighters on "skill" and "h2h" is ridiculous to me. They fought under different rules and their skills were adepted to produce the best results under those rules. Put Jeff in the wring with Wlad under Wlad´s rules and he probably looks worse than any opponent Wlad had so far. Put Wlad in with Jeff under Jeff´s rule and you see the same the other way round. It makes as much sense putting Wlad in with someone like that guy who beat Toney in MMA. But I guess that´s the different perception on sport. I don´t think it evolved. The fighters adepted to the changing rules. That´s all.
