Even if a few people do beat him.. all it means is what we already know.. people are getting bigger, stronger, faster.

So if your going to compare a guy of the past to people of the present, at least make it fair.. instead of saying a 5'11 (or whatever he was) Frazier, think a 6'2 Frazier.. a small heavyweight by todays standard just as he was a small heavyweight by his standard. Otherwise, its really unfair to compare fighters because mediocre fighters do well against great fighters of 40yrs ago purely because humans are bigger, stronger and faster now. And they will be bigger tomorrow.

Can you break down the differences between now and then, please? Let's say starting from Frazier's peak in 1970. How has boxing changed in the last 38 years?

Foreman Tooled Joe with BASIC PUNCHES, ur telling me Sanders quick straight left or uppercut wouldnt ruin JOE? face it, athletes are generally, bigger stronger and faster today.

I know he wasn't 6'2 smart guy. My point is that you can't compare Frazier with the HW scene of the past 10-15 years or so (maybe longer) because Frazier was probably too small to beat some big HWs just due to size. I'm saying if Frazier was just a little bit bigger (couple inches, 20 lbs or so) he would dominate today outside of Wlad. Even with his size disadvantage IMO only the few HW's I mentioned would be clearly favored over Frazier (and maybe a couple other tough skilled tall HWs but not many). Even undersized, Frazier would be a dominant favorite over povetkin, chagaev, and chambers (whom are average to smaller hws with average plus ability IMO).

You don't post much on boxing, but what you do say is spot on.

Or in the case of the heavyweights bigger, fatter, slower.

Tua of a few years ago I think could beat him, just because he's such a tank.
There's no'one else currently active who I'd favour.

It is simply looking at how he is a cruiser by today's standards. Even the big heavies of that era are small heavies today. Would you pick Jean Marc Mormeck or Tomasz Adamek over Klitschko?

Comeon, stop overrating past eras. In every sport, every sport bar none, athletes are faster, stronger and larger than they were 38 years ago. This is all quantifiable, and not based on suppositions, whether you want to acknowledge it or not. Do you honestly think the 1972 Dolphins would beat the 2007 Giants?

But that is a huge what if. What if Valuev was 6'2" 220 instead of 7'1" 320? Frazier may not be as active, may not be as tenacious, he might be a totally different fighter at 6'2" and 220, so that doesn't really work.

Once again, would you pick someone like Mormeck over someone like Povetkin, Chagaev or Chambers?

Sorry but Frazier gets lit up by the first two.

And I'm not an "old head" clinging onto the past, but some statements are just ridiculous.

Yep,its the size gap,not a quality gap that makes things like this an issue. If Joe struggled,it would be because most Heavies are bigger since the 70's NOT better.

I'm sure a few fighters of the past 20 years would beat him, but to say anyone that's good? Ludicrious.

Povetkin beat Frazier? How? How in the name of god would that happen? How ****ing delusional do you have to be to actually be able to envision Pvetkin beating Joe Frazier?
