How many heavyweight champions can you name who had a better chin than Larry Holmes?

Yeah but why limit it to just lineal? It just limits your own options. Yeah the likes of mcCall, Vitali an mercer weren’t lineal but you can’t have any credible thread about the best heavyweight chins without mentioning them

 

Yes your right to a point but after Lewis retired he was seen as the best heavyweight in the world .
Vitality then went on a dominant reign against the best contender s.
The thing that mixed thing s up of course, was him retiring, his brother picking up the other belts, then vitali coming back.
So a little confusing at the best of times.

With HW champs there really aren't a lot whose chins are bad just not as good. First I went down the list and picked the most durable. Then I looked at who was left and picked those who stood out as being better then Holmes.

The first group I've got Burns, Johnson, Langford, Dempsey, Tunney, Uzcudchin, Max Baer, Carnera, Braddock, Louis, Liston, Ali, Foreman, Witherspoon, Tucker, Bowe, Oliver McCall, Holyfield, Briggs, Vitali, Wlad 2.0, Valuev, Ibragimov,Chagaev, Luis Ortiz, Povetkin, Andy Ruiz, Usyk.

The 2nd group I've got Godfrey, Norton, Buster, Moorer, Lennox, Wilder, Fury, Zhang, Kabayel.

Did this quick so probably forgot someone. Theres quite a few others who have a case to be more durable then Holmes but where I don't feel that strongly about it.

I excluded 19th century guys.

 

Foreman has a case to have the single best chin ever. Holmes is among the worst of the non small champs.

The Ali knockout was more him being done with the whole Zaire situation and the Young one was because he tripped going for a hail mary. Lyles the only one whose power truly phased him.

 

I think Jeffries, Foreman, Tyson, McCall. Maybe yet Louis, Marciano, Liston, Frazier, Holyfield, Bowe, Mercer, Vitali, Usyk.

Nonsense. Foreman reputation as having a great durable chin was entirely down to his comeback fights in his late 30s an 40s. Before that in his physical prime in the 1970s there was absolutely no one that declared him as having one of the best heavyweight chins in history. Can it be explained why old Foreman was so durable as opposed to when he was younger? Who knows maybe he was just a lot heavier an bigger an it just took more than before to knock him off balance an down but still, though he was not off his feet even old Foreman was hurt in several fights where he could have gone down such as in the Holyfield an Stewart fights
