How many heavyweight champions can you name who had a better chin than Larry Holmes?

Very few of them if any. Larry Holmes fought through 75 pro fights with his last one coming in his 50’s. In all those encounters he was stopped but once and that came at the age of 38 following a two year layoff and against an all time great puncher in his prime. Holmes survived the power of Earnie Shavers, Gerry Cooney, Ken Norton, Mike Weaver, Trevor Berbick, Tim Witherspoon, Evander Holyfield and Ray Mercer - beating the vast majority of them.

 

Liston took blows from the greatest puncher of his time, Cleveland Williams. He easily took blows from the hard-hitting Folley and several other boxers. I don't know what happened in the rematch with Ali, but Sonny wasn't hurt there.

I think he had a great beard, but okay, maybe I'm overestimating him.

 

First thing that crossed my mind. Not many at all. How about none! How many times did we see Holmes get knocked down and he gets right back up. In the second Shavers fight, Earnie hit Holmes flush with a perfect shot. Holmes was leaning right into it and got clubbed. He goes down like a tree and is back on his feet before the count is half over. Hardly wobbly at all. This is not just about chin. It's as much about having legs like stumps.

 

All these guys better at taking a punch than Holmes? Oliver McCall? LOL you can't be serious. I supposed you watched all these guys take their shots and come back strong? Yeah, it looks like you did this list up quick.
