I do like him silly boy. He is my favourite HW after Fury and I followed him long before before you even knew he existed. This is how I have the division

Because he is good in this era , does not mean he'd be good in previous era's. This is the worst HW era known to man. I wouldn't favour Fury against former ATGs any more than I would Povetkin.

Not all of Povetkin's wins were against washed up foes or weak ones. He has a few decent wins against some able bodied contenders. And remember that the aged ones were beaten when he was mostly a prospect himself with very few pro fights.. But when the question of "elite" opponents comes into play, he's only faced one and that one elite guy beat him. Therefore its difficult to give him the green light to be favored against proven great lineal champions.

 

You picked his best wins not me ,I merely pointed out where they were in their respective careers at the time.

he was only ever a marginal contender at his best. Byrd was past his best , nearly 37 years old..Chagaev had a majority win over Valuev and that was his claim to fame. Chambers was unranked when he fought Povetkin he didn't crack the top ten till the following year.

Povetkin is one of the best contenders but his resume is very shallow

If Wlad decided to retire tomorrow, and an elimination tournament were held to find his successor, I think it would end up being Povetkin.

 

That would be Fury clearly. Povetkins short hooks would not be effective on Tyson in the slightest .

He'd be clubbed , spinned and turned all night long.

 

I agree with what you say, but the phrase " Oustside of Wlad " isn't the reality. Especially not when you're trying to make a case for him beating lineal champions and he lost to the one lineal champion he's faced, not to mention one who was 37 years old and basically dominated him. I agree that he's beaten some contenders but not anyone that I'm willing to call elite.

 

Povetkin would give Fury a boxing lesson.
