How many heavyweight champions would Povetkin beat?

Povetkin would be competitive in any era. Whether or not he'd ever be champ is a different matter but he would always be competitive.

He went life and death with Huck whilst in his prime and he was totally outclassed by Wlad. So I don't see him ever dominating an era but on his day he was a top talent.

Wilder and Fury are undefeated , so what?Jennings was undefeated Wach,Pulev too and Pianeta had lost only once if you're fighting the current heavyweights it shouldn't be hard to be undefeated As to where they come from ,who gives a sh*t? I don't care if they are Mongolian,French , Chinese or what ever, I just want them to be good. Povetkin is 36 he isn't going to get any better now.

 

In fairness Povetkin is a good fighter my friend. Not siding with Mendoza but the proof is all on film. He has very sharp and sound skills to go along with a solid chin, decent punch and a lot of heart. Most of his last several opponents have been ranked by one faction or another. You can't just look at ring annual ratings. some of them were ranked by ring in the month he fought them while others were ranked by the sanctioning bodies and some not at all but were still live opponents. His opposition has been what I call " decent" but just not " stellar." Beating a string of "decent" opponents and looking impressive in doing it is still respectable. As for this claim about him being favored over a whole line of past lineal champions, I don't buy into it. But that doesn't mean that he wouldn't be a live challenger in pretty much any era.

 

I also said he has a solid chin, good punch and lot's of heart which I firmly believe to be true.

Povetkin fought Byrd in his 14th pro fight old or not that is a good scalp to have early in your career. He defeated 35-0 Eddie Chambers good win, Chagaev another good win. And since losing to a Wlad he has reeled off three straight stoppage wins over fighters that were never stopped before. Charr fair win, Takam and Perez both good wins.

Povetkin is very good.

 

Looking only at lineal champions, the bold ones he beats. The ones in italic, I'm unsure of.

I think he beats anyone before Dempsey. Boxing was still in its infancy back then and a different sport entirely.

Up to Liston, I think he has a good chance against many champions. Since boxing was heavily based on in-fighting I wouldn't fancy the chances of the smaller men overcoming Povetkin, at least not with certainity. Tunney and Schmeling could outbox him and Louis and Dempsey are just too good. Walcott was fairly inconsistent and Charles and Marciano were a bit too small. Povetkin would be dangerous for all three. Patterson had a questionable set of whiskers but also quick hands, good skill and monstrous power for his weight. Johansson, eehhhhh.

The Liston era embarks a change in heavyweight history and Povetkin gets less and less competent. The heavyweights only got bigger and with better all-around ability than the Russian, Povetkin loses to most lineal champions from this point on.

 

I've never said he wasn't decent I said he is one of the better contenders. but three of his best wins are over old men.

 

I've seen him, saying he is one of the better contenders does not make him great, most of them are sh*t.Fury has beaten no ranked fighters.

 

That's an oversimplification. He fought most of those guys when he was an umpteen fight prospect and frankly I don't even think those were his best wins.. Chambers was 30-0, 25 years of age and had a decent win over Calvin Brock before Povetkin soundly outpointed him. Mike Perez had never been stopped and once hammered another prospect into a coma and ultimately retirement. He last one round with Povetkin. Carlos Takem was a tough customer and Ruslan was past it but still one of the top 10 in the world.

 

Derek Chisora was ranked at the time of that fight. Steve cunningham has been in and out of the ratings on and off over the past few years. And Fury also beat a handful of decent prospects on the way up.

 

The maker of the thread does ,I was just rebutting him. Personally he does little for me he is average at just about everything,. average power, average speed, average boxing ability.That's probably enough to get you preceived as a great in todays heavy division.Doesn't it strike you that at 36 he is leaving it bit late to be "discovered"?
