I could well imagine Jimmy in Philly Soul mode dedicating a Harold Melvin song to some ringside judges with slightly altered lyrics "We all have our funny scores I got mine and you sure got yours too" Or how about Jimmy tinkering with a Three Degrees song lyric? Gazing intently at the same ringside judges "Yes this is the fight to score a dodgy decision. You gotta get it together"

I believe a prime or near prime version of Jimmy Young would give any version of Foreman problems, even the Caracas one.

Without a doubt, that win in San Juan and virtually shutting out Ron Lyle twice. Of course, being Pres of the fan club I'm a bit biased, but yes, a difficult night for Captain Caracas.

Cheers,Conteh. How about Jimmy, with his best Sheila Ferguson fluttering of eyelashes at Don King and singing "When will you screw me again?"

Carcacas George was a very different cat than San Juan George.

I agree. Young more than likely gets bombed out early to mid rounds against '73-'74 Foreman.

Well it better be earlier than mid-rounds as, for one, Lee Kerr of Boxing News stated (not long after 'Caracas'):

"I've often wondered what would happen to Foreman were George to draw someone capable of living with him for six rounds. I seriously doubt he can go the distance without collapsing in exhaustion from his own hit-&-miss exertions. I can still visualize him sucking air like a fish out of water in the stretch drive of his go with Greg Peralta, who is a poor man's Jimmy Young". *

    * 7 words of that are fabricated, the rest, all true.

Very good....or maybe "giving up, giving in-a, I won't be no fool again" would have been better advice?

But this is why I rate Larry Holmes so highly...endlessly ripped off by King fight after fight, e.g. getting a £1,000 payday and Don would keep $700 of it. He also made far less money after 'deductions' for the Cooney fight (as champ and winner too). King would even gatecrash a hotel where Holmes was with his future wife on a break, to tell him he was "fighting Roy Williams next week" (for $2,000!!); a big 6ft 6in, 240 pounder who'd even beaten Foreman's 'daddy' Jimmy Young back in the day. It must have been soul destroying... and yet Larry went undefeated for so long. Brilliant.

Another reason I brought up Holmes? He's an obvious pick here. Wide UD.

Do you have any info in the humidity and temp in Caracas?

Nope. I have no doubt you do though. Given your obsession with Foreman, I can easily see you going down there, going through the weather archives just to find the temperature on this day, and use it to disparage Foreman in any way you can. Get a life you bum.

It’s almost as if the weather and humidity of tropical locations only adversely affect George on nights when he loses and never adversely affect his opponents. I find that fascinating.

At that time, with fighters from that time, probably only Muhammad Ali.
