How many jab variations are there?

Suprised this doesn’t have any replies. I was going to answer earlier but didn’t think I had much to add outside of the ‘flicker jab’.

If I were a trainer, I’d like to put my boxer in the mindset that the ‘jab’ and ‘lead hand’ are almost synonymous.
Watch a couple of my favourite fighters, Duran and Locche at their best. Their greatest attribute is that you don’t know what’s coming next, and it starts with the jab/lead hand.

Locche could feint a jab, throw a jab, feint a hook, throw a hook to the body or head, and every one starts from the same position.

Duran could flick a jab out from an awkward angle, hook off the jab, throw a hard jab, use a measuring jab, which he did a lot.

I think it benefits anybody who wants to box to not think just of throwing such and such a jab, once they know how to punch and have the basics.
Make them realise there are so many nuances or variations and they can use the lead hand in a lot of different ways.

 

Infinite possibilities.

 

Stepping with the jab pretty much doubles these possibilities.

Apparently Ray Arcel taught Holmes like 23 different ways on how to jab, so probably around that many

The yab is a Mexican jab.

 

You can double the amount by using ‘left ___ jab’ for orthodox fighters and ‘right __ jab’ for southpaws.
