How many middleweights were greater than Golovkin?

I think Sergio keeping his hands at his waste would spell disaster for him against GGG.

 

Hagler
Monzon
Robinson
Hopkins

These guys for me clearly rank higher as ATG middleweights. Robinson, one of the best ever regardless of weight and his resume at middleweight was superior, yeah he had some losses but he was fighting so often your bound to pick up some losses on an off night.

Hagler, Monzon and Hopkins all had lengthy reigns like GGG but Hagler and Monzon had better wins over better opposition.

Hopkins resume is on par with GGG's but stylistically I think Hopkins beats him and much of what he did at middleweight was done past his prime as he was already 35 when he beat Tito while GGG by then was struggling with Canelo. Also what he did at higher weights puts in better perspective just how good he really was at 160lbs.

There other fighters I think that could beat GGG like McCallum, RJJ and Toney but they lack his length of reign at middleweight, so I can't say they were greater middleweights.

Hagler, Hopkins, Monzón, RJJ, SRR, and Ketchel for starters. After that you're in debate territory.

GGG is definitely more of a h2h guy than a résumé guy. Not really his fault, just wasn't the quality opposition available. Pirog's back injury screwed both of them of the winner being crowned an instant ATG.
