Chavez will be fined $1 million dollars for every pound he weighs-in at over 164.5 lbs What will be his weight and how many millions will he lose at weigh-in?
Chavez Jr weighed in at 158 lbs vs Sergio Martinez in late 2012 to make Middleweight. How drained was he having to make MW and specifically for the Martinez fight? Just over 4 years later, you would think he would be able to make a weight 6.5 lbs more than what he was able to make vs Martinez. I doubt this fight will be for a SMW title given Alvarez's MW aspirations, but here Chavez may be able to target 164.5 and if he comes in at 165 or 165.5 the fight will go on. He would lose some of his purse, but the fight would go on. Canelo here is agreeing to a weight 9.5 lbs north of the highest weight he's ever fought at, and potentially 13 lbs north of the highest weight he's ever fought at. My guess is that Canelo will weigh in at just over the MW limit, like 161 or 162 lbs and we will see a much bigger stronger Canelo than ever before. He will probably stick to his usual routine but with the ability to drink more water during fight week. Chavez on the other hand I don't think will be more drained than he was vs Martinez at 158 lbs, and after getting completely outboxed, he pretty much ended Martinez's career in that 12th round. Even if Canelo is up on the cards, he would have to be very careful of Chavez in the 12th round as that's where Chavez could land a big punch. This is certainly one way for Canelo to move up to MW, via Super MW. This is the first time that Canelo really doesn't have to stress to make a weight, this is certainly a good tune up as far as fighting a big opponent. Chavez Jr will definetly have a considerab size advantage over Canelo, and it's the biggest fighter Canelo has ever fought by far. Golovkin will be small to Canelo after fighting Chavez Jr.
Which will be harder, Chavez losing the weight or Chavez beating Canelo? Both are two huge challenges for Chavez. If he loses the weight and comes in at 165, will he have enough power to hurt and take Canelo's punches and if he comes in heavy will he be able to bully Canelo around the ring. Either way, Chavez and his come forward with his head down defence is all wrong for fighting Canelo. Chavez can't change this style, and I see Canelo using the jab and uppercut all night to snap Chavez's head up, all night.
Damn Oscar is milking that ginger kid for all it's worth! This fight is actually borderline comedy... The most overrated undisciplined, dining out on a name fighter in years versus the most over valued dining out on a loss & Mexican boxing heritage fighter ever! It's a joke LOL It will sell too cos idiots will buy it.
I question if Jr. even cares about his career anymore. It wouldn't shock me if Jr. makes the weight and quits the first time he get hit and goes home with his $7 million.
