He is now 31 by the time that he meets Cotto he will be 32 going on 33. Doesn't it make sense that he should make this fight as soon as possible, if he waits a year or two is he not doing Cotto a favor? Why waste time with De La Hoya if you only have two or maybe three years left of prime? Will he regret this decision, what if he loses to De La Hoya? I am not a fan of his and I respect that you have to make as much money as possible but I cant help but think that he is wasting his prime to an extent!!! Ali's Prime was taken away from him bY the US Government, Floyd is wasting his on bull**** fights, I would not surprise me if he fought Hatton again by the way, easier fight than Cotto and probably more money.
Mayweather-Cotto was not gonna happen this year with De La Hoya around. Floyd= would rather fight Oscar than fight Cotto. More money, probably an easier fight, on better terms with GBP than with Arum. Cotto= would rather (or his team would rather him) fight DLH than Mayweather. More money, more exposure, maybe an easier fight, Arum is on better terms with DLH than he is with PBF. De La Hoya and Schaefer= "If negotiations with Mayweather fall through, we'll fight Cotto". It isn't hard to figure out. We're going to have to wait to see Mayweather-Cotto, if we see it at all.
yeah and he has had hand troubles for years He is always in great shape and with great stamina, but it wont be for too long that he is slowing down. I would love to see him make that cotto fight soon while they are both undefeated.
yeah ****ing greedy DLH is messing it up. I dont see why he needs the attention all the time. He already has a legacy and already has a ton of money he doesnt need either. cotto-PBF is the best fight to be made in boxing right now and DLH isnt allowing it to happen because he wants the attention on him
Mayweather fights Cotto next year - as long as neither loses. There's no bigger fight for either one.
Mayweather takes care of himself between fights, and hasn't endured much punishment. If B-Hop is still a major player at 43, Mayweather could have many years ahead of him.
We don't know. Maybe his prime will be until 2008, 2009 or 2010. Maybe he's past his prime right now.
I agree two years sound just about right. Just remember that speed and reflexes are the first things to go as a fighter ages. Look at Roy Jones JR, God he was unbeatable, One Left hand made him a mere mortal.
PBF has never been in a "War" per-say but he does have chronic issues with his hands, with that said his style of fight will probably allow him to last another four years. If he fights Cotto within that time I can see him opting to retire win, lose or draw. A Cotto scrap would be quite physical in my opinion and not much of a chess match because of the hype that will surround it and rightfully so. We are all aware of PBF's ability to outbox anyone in the fight game between feather and middle but I truly feel Mayweather will bang with Cotto and this will only create fireworks PBF will know he was in a tough bout no doubt about it.
Hopkins is just a freak of nature and a very physical fighter, Floyd does not share those attributes. Futhermore he has not been in his prime for quite some time. Being a major player and being in your physical prime are two different things.
I really think Floyds prime is passed him. Alot of this having to do with motivation. He is a huge star and beginning to speak of retirement and doing other things. I'm sorry you CANNOT be a prime fighter if you aren't 100% motivated and hungry. And he isn't anymore and never will be able to regain that fire.
รง But Hopkins is past his prime since 2004 or 2005. Arguably, Mayweather is also past his prime. His weight, the motivation, the inactivity, too many factors.
I dont agree that Mayweather's prime has passed, i think he is the physically strongest he has ever been. I always thought that he looked malnutritioned at 130lbs, and 147 is his natural weight. He may have given up some of his speed but i think he looked good in his last fight and if his mind is on boxing he can go on for as long as he is still focusing.
Thats the problem, it isn't. Hopkins still has desire to be the best and wants to secure his legacy. Floyds mind is elsewhere, he already believes he deserves to be named with the ATGs and is no longer hungry.
