How does Valdez do against the rest in the list, from your perspective? Please also note the words "Golovkin's best chance".
James had about 5 meaningful fights at the weight, one a draw against McCallum, one a robbery against Tiberi. Tiger had about 20. In regards to the OP, I am not picking Ketchel, Walker, Valdez or Zale over GGG. I know, heresy. Sorry.
It all boils down opinions doesn't it? The draw with McCallum was bogus don't use that as a crutch. Yes I said in other threads Toney was his worst enemy. Are you saying an in shape and motivated Toney doesn't have the skills to hang with any of these guys?
Not at all. I can't say that James can hang with Charles in another thread and suggest he can't hang with these guys. But two things: 160 was not his best, consistent weight. Just because he could make 160 didn't mean it was the best place for him. He was a 200 pound QB in high school. That's a lot of weight for an athlete to drop. Secondly, I am just saying that GGG can hang well these guys and is no pushover. Unfortunately, he toiled in something of an unremarkable period for middles... but then, so did Monzon.
I agree about GGG. Hes no push over for anyone in my book. Not his fault nobody wanted to fight him I'm his prime or that there aren't numerous greats in his era he passes the eye test for me as does Toney despite his lack of discipline
With his power and smarts, he'd be very competitive with this group. Would win some and lose some. I'd pick him over Valdez, LaMotta, Zale, Walker, or Tiger in a heartbeat. Beats Giordello and Ketchel too. No idea how to evaluate Greb in head to head matchups. And he'd be Monzon's toughest opponent, by far. At his best, say circa 2013-15, I think he probably wins at least half.
you've picked a very tough list for a guy who isnt a HoFer or ATG,ad whose best effort is a draw with an elite from the lower division. WHy not match atgs vs atgs instead. or at least wait till ggg adds some hof and atg wins to his resume as he surely win in the next few years.
I could have included Mike Gibbons ,and some of those you named but I wanted to keep things simple .I think those named are enough to gauge his true worth ,don't you? `
Personally I judge that he'll never get 10 more bouts against ATG's or even simply recognized very good boxers. He just can't do it starting at the age of 36. First of all, he will need to crush Canelo. Another close win or draw won't cut it. I don't see anyone placing Alvarez in a top 15 MW or SWW, so how can GGG draw or lose or simple squeeze out a win and then be considered top 10 All Time? Can't be done.
