Hey don't say people have never been injured. Everyone has been injured.

But would we fight for 2 rounds with a broken jaw for millions of dollars? I'm sure if we were in the physical condition Victor Ortiz was in then hell yes why not? What did he have to lose?

Millions of dollars or quit and destroy your career, difficult choice?

Honestly, it depends on what's on the line. Being ahead on the judges scorecards with 3 rounds to go, I would make a tactical move to spoil as much as I can and fight negative for the remainder of the fight and take my chances on the cards.

There is a stigma attached to quitting in a fight, as a result of an injury. Vitaly suffered for years because of it. Ortiz has quit before and this only reinforces the notion that he's a quitter in what is essentially a very unforgiving sport.

I can understand why he did it because the pain must had been insufferable but getting hit repeatedly by Jack Dempsey or Mike Tyson with a broken jaw must have been insufferable too. The point is that there are fighters who've been able to fight through the pain. Ortiz was simply not expecting this kind of affair and mentally he probably didn't prepare himself to endure the kind of pain that Lopez inflicted.

I'd never fight professionally even if I had the talent to. That doesn't stop me from pointing out the fact that other elite fighters would have gone on in Ortiz's place.

  12. It's not expected of him, not in boxing or any sport. That said, you are respected as a warrior for showing brave and courageous decisions. In professional boxing, showing what youve got is more than welcome.

Of course they were going to put some Ice on his jaw and he was going to hit the gym in week. He'll be off for at least 2 months the fight with Canelo in September was impossible at the moment he broke his jaw.
