You sure they were not fractured? I had went to the hospital the day it happened cus I heard/felt a pop almost like someone cracked my back. I thought my back had just cracked at first.

The Dr X Rayed my back rather than the area I told him I got hit, simply gave me some Tylenol and sent me on my way. a few weeks after that I noticed two lumps on my ribs, almost like it was a tumor or some ****.

I went to my regular Dr and wouldnt you know he X Rayed the ribs and and found two of them busted.
I continued working in the gym I just could not load up on any right hand, stayed away from sparring for a bit. probably the best thing that happened to me cus I got to work on that left jab and left hook more.

But damn it was a *****.....

Probably were fractured, or even still are. Nothing a doctor can do about a lot of rib injuries anyway, unless a punctured lung, etc comes in to play. They just give you painkillers and tell you to rest.

I chose to take painkillers and fight. Then drink alcohol.

At least they are healing now. I can move more freely and throw shots that I wasn't able to a few weeks back. Not throwing with any sort of power at the minute though.

People keep throwing out, he had a huge payday coming up so he should have tried to continue. That's crap. With a broken jaw, the Canelo fight wasn't a possibility anyway. He had to win this fight without any injuries to set him back, broken jaw is that type of injury. If it's true like it's been reported that it broke in round 5and he deserves a little more respect

In fairness to Ortiz, he was fighting with a broken/cracked sternum as well, and was doing so for a little while before he sustained an injury to his jaw. It's natural to panic after sustaining any sort of injury, and when another injury is suffered than that feeling would only be compounded.

If I suffer both of those injuries, and am confronted with the task of fighting someone who seems to be getting stronger as the fight progresses, then I'm certainly going to panic. I think that's what happened with Ortiz, and I can't really fault him for that. I can criticize him for a lot of things, like deliberately hitting Josesito in the back of the head...but I can't criticize him for freaking out after sustaining two consecutive injuries in the course of a fight.

i fought with a dislocated shoulder. it was an amateur fight. the pain was excruciating. i felt even worse the day after. my shoulder was never the same. i've had my jaw tweaked...it's not a good feeling. i couldn't imagine fighting with a broken jaw.

Okay with that said, Knowing you nearly had two plus training camps, knowing the work put in by you and your trainers.
Would you have trusted enough in your corner to go back make them aware of the situation and give them one more round to see if their adjusted Game plan works?

I think Ortiz should have given his corner the opportunity to give him advice, so that he can win another way. I am not saying he should have finished what I am saying is he should have tried, he should have given himself and his corner one final round to see if they can do it another way.

Could you imagine if he did that and pulled out the win? Sure he wouldnt fight Canelo in sept but it would elevate his status as a fighter, and add to the build up of that fight later down the road.

    But thats just me....

I have no clue what a broken jaw feels like, so I can't answer. But I'm pretty sure it hurts like hell.

In the heat of the moment, I make a decision that is best for my health, both present and future. I get out of the ring, get the jaw fixed, and exercise my re-match clasue.

(There was enough damage I doubt Ortiz would be ready for Canelo in September anyway.)

My defense is too good to get a broken jaw. I fight on and destroy Josesito in 3 rounds. The truth, I get a broken jaw and try to fight on, use my jab and not get into any heavy exchanges and whenever possible get on my bicycle and hold as much as I could until the fight is over. But if Josesito taps my chinny chinny chin again I'll probably quit.

It is hard to say. I would like to think that, if I had a big payday and all I had to do is suck it up for three more rounds, I would not quit.

But it is easier said than done.

I did get cracked in my Jaw once while having my mouth open ( big mistake ). Thank God I didn't get my jaw broke but it was messed up pretty good. The weird thing was I got cracked on my right side but felt a sharp pain on my left. as if my jaw got slightly shifted out of position.

Usually in a fight adrennaline kicks in and you don't feel somethings like a broken nose and such, but I felt a sharp pain and my jaw wasn't even broken. So I can just imagine the pain Ortiz felt. But still knowing you are getting a shot at Canelo one would thing Vic could just hang in there.

    Easier said than done.

Lloyd Honeyghan fought Mark Starling with a nasty broken jaw for the majority of their fight untill Mills Lane stopped the fight in the 9th. But Lloyd never was trying to quit or complain.

according to steve forbes who was his sparring partner for this fight...victor had his jaw broken in the fourth round. i haven't gone back and looked at footage....but some ppl are saying that he whispered something to garcia in between rounds around the fifth. if that is the case....he gave it a go...and it only got worse. thing about it....victor has poor defense. he also should have had NO BUSINESS THROWING PUNCHES WITH HIS MOUTH WIDE OPEN!!! that was an observation i made prior to the fight and posted a pic in this forum pointing it out. that's boxing 101. u DO NOT fight with ur mouth open. this was a tough lesson learned. i think the kid will be back though. his jaw's never going to be the same so he better improve his defense if he wants to extend his career.

Worked thru a day with a fractured elbow. Also worked thru a day with a fractured thumb.

Doctors thought I was crazy each time, for not coming in earlier.

One nurse almost got fired for not handling me more urgently once fracture was diagnosed.

Some fighters make noises when they punch, Vic is one of them, its not so much that his mouth was open, its more of a case that his chin was not down. When ever Victor throws his chin is wide open he doesnt keep it buried.
Forbes is an honest guy and is probably telling you the camps version of the story, a little damage control, Vic himself said in the 9th round during his interview. if anything was broken in the 4th round it was his sternum and his heart
