Don't downplay your accomplishments, brother. Winning a the state Gold Gloves title is impressive no matter what state you're in. Nice going. Good luck if you pick it back up again.

I've competed in several tough man, jujutsu, and submission wrestling tournaments. I always seem to lose by split decision - so technically I think that makes me a bum.

I got into boxing late (23) as a amatuer. Did well for a little while until marriage and kids pulled me away. You have to give boxing 100% or it won't work. I was fast and had KO power in both hands.

Claim to fame: I sparred Edwin Curet and hit him with a half uppercut, have jab and followed up with a right hand. Beatiful combo that I worked on for a year. It actually ended up being a draw and I actually had a fever, but did not want to pass up sparring a pro.

Beat and almost knocked out John Ruiz former trainer Norman Stone's fighter. A 5'11 Irish kid, with believe it or not, a triple jab. Caught him good with a left hook that made his eyes roll up and his mouth piece fly out of his mouth. I got dropped with a body shot the last round and the kid put his hands up and started to celebrate. That's a no, no. I wanted one more round and Stoney said no. Mind you, even with the left hook, I was not going hard on him. This is what is taught by Stoney. By the way, both claims to fame happened way after I finished with the amateurs in NJ. The above happened in MA.

By the way, I use to train at the Kirk Center in Elizabeth, NJ, Coqui Gym in Newark, NJ, and the Hall of fame gym in Newark, NJ. Met Bobby Cyz, Mayfield, Terrence Ali, and Bo James who lost to Hopkins back in the day. He was a full-time firefighter. This was back in 1990 era. Has anyone been to any of these gyms. Oh, I made it to the golden glove finals, but had to pull out due to a hernia. Never lived down the fact that I knew I would have won the 156 title. Well, know I am interested in getting back in boxing shape and maybe try kickboxing.

I don't. Which is why if any of you ever see me bitching out a fighter for no justifiable reason, feel free to verbally ***** slap me. When it comes down to it, I've got respect for what ALL boxers are made of. It takes all kinds of heart just to be IN the ring.
