How many of you are fed up with the current boxing scene?

Still the best sport on the planet.

 

If you can't find anything to like with modern boxing, you aren't looking hard enough.

 

It does get frustrating sometimes. The hardest part is when you actually do have a great crop of fighters (flyweight ((one of the deepest 112 scenes ever))) who are all willing to get down but they can't even get on accessible TV or the deserving don't get paid enough.

You know what's underrated these days, though?

The boxing purists, I think, with more access (via the Internet) then ever before are more enlightened than ever. No other time in history would we have been able to put together a Top 100 like we (mostly McGrain of course) did.

And guys like Ted Spoon aren't even that old so it's not like they're from bygone generations.

Never in history could a young dude like myself walk into the bar and put every bloke in there to shame with my knowledge.

History comes to life in this sport like no other.

 

Yeah that part does suck. At least they do fight each other, though. Gonzalez vs. Estrada/Rodriguez/Yaegashi happened, with rematches of the first two possible at some point, or a huge showdown with Inoue...all real treats.

 

I am fed up with the bouts of Wladimir Klitschko. Yes, I think that Wladimir is a nice guy and would be a great neighbor, but his bouts are usually not competitive and are a great cure for insomnia.

rc, finally a breath of fresh air !!! You cannot understand why boxing is no longer a major sport UNTIL you saw what boxing was in the 1940s and 1950s before television killed the small fight clubs that gave thousand of young boxers an opportunity to learn their trade, whilst making a living doing so. Those days in the 1940s top fighters fought 15 to 20 fights a year against the very best contenders in fights the PUBLIC DEMANDED...
For a tiny example lightweights like Ike Williams, Beau Jack, Bob Montgomery, Sammy Angott, willie Joyce, Freddie Dawson, ALL great fighters fought each other OFTEN, risking losses to other great lightweights, unlike a Mayweather who picks his victims once or twice a year...Today a foreign fighter like my favorite
fighter GGG is avoided like Leprosy , so obviously without
an outcry by todays boxing fans , some of who decry "well, who has Golovkin fought " , as IF THIS IS HIS FAULT ??? Instead of boycotting the fighters who rake in the dough fighting stiffs and avoiding dangerous opponents lika a GGG or a Sergey Kovalev,
they contribute to this travesty we call boxing today...Thanks rc

I finally got May vs Pac coming in May. I've got Canelo vs Kirkland and Provodnikov vs Matthysse coming up. Boxing is coming back to regular tv this Saturday; so I'm fairly happy right now.

Even in lackluster years, there are still good fights getting made. You just need to keep a wide view of the sport. A UFC fan taunted me a while back that boxing was dead and there were no big fights since May and Pac wouldn't meet. I responded with about twenty good fights we'd had the previous year, but it didn't mean anything to him because he'd only ever heard of May and Pac.

The more I learn about boxing, the harder it is to keep up with all the constant action. I used to just follow a handful of stars, but now if I want to keep up with everything happening in the sport I need to watch the contenders, the prospects, the star amateurs, and even the little divisions below welter.

You'd have to watch a match a day just to take the pulse of the sport. There are probably a hundred guys worth watching all having two or three fights a year. Then, I'm still catching up on the fights from the 80s and 90s people talk about from before I was a fan, and the ones earlier than that from before I was alive.

This is a great sport with some serious depth to it that you can get lost in if you aren't careful.

 

But the music is still ****.

 

Two words for you, Roman Gonzalez.

You are looking at all the bad side of things. But for every lame champ doing it wrong, there's a people's champ who is exciting and taking hard fights. For every Mayweather, there is a Pacquiao. For every Danny Garcia, there is a Lucas Matthysse. For every Ward there is a Froch, For every Stevenson there is a Kovalev. For every Quillin there is a Golovkin. For every Santa Cruz there is a Rigondeaux.

 

I'm happy with boxing being like it is now.
If there were great fights on every week it would be too much effort to keep up with it.
